muffinmom
what level should I start him with? I've heard Singapore is a bit ahead of some other programs. Basically I want him to review addition and subtraction, but I'd be thrilled if he learned something new too. Any advice?
Alana in Canada
I'm not sure what's in Alpha, but books 1A and 1B might be good review--or they may be redundant. Here's a link to a page showing the contents with links to sample pages at the bottom. You may want to use just 1B perhaps.
Lori in MS
I plan to have my son do 1A and 1B after he completes Alpha in a few weeks.
LanaTron
You could go look on the Singapore math website. If they don't have a placement tool, you could ask on the forums over there.
Mandamom
I've used both programs and with my kids they would have been ready for 1A after Alpha. My older kids weren't advanced math students so 1B would have been too much. Some of the material will be review but the approach is so different it should be a change of pace -- if not even a little fun. Otherwise, try the placement test and see how that goes. ElizabethB
We switched to Singapore after going halfway through MUS Alpha. 1A is all review, there are a few new types of problems in the Intensive Practice workbook, the challenging problems. We like the Intensive Practice book, in fact, for 1A, it's all we're using. 1B is more new things, but still a lot of review. I'd get just the IP book for 1A. You could try just getting that for 1B, then get the rest of 1B if you decide you need more.
