YHZNS
My oldest DD has a birthday this month. I found this pyramid kit at a local teacher supply store. Has anyone purchased this kit before? Was it worth the money? http://shop.nationalgeographic.com/product/131/4724/106.html My kids don't know the difference between "educational" gifts and "regular" gifts. ;) Rebecca
Alessandra
I don't have the NG set, but I do have two pyramid building block sets -- I got them during my "enrichment kit' period. They are nice, but overall I'd have to say there are better uses for money and storage space. We have also got some Dig Discover Display kits and found the scraping & cleaning rather tedious. What might be fun are architectural blocks like this (there are smaller sets too) http://www.hearthsong.com/hearthsong/product.do?section_id=0&bc=1005&pgc=2538&cmvalue=HS|0|Normal%20Search%20Result|P1 We like these because play can be more varied & imaginative -- plus there is a really nice book with pix & plans. Or, have you thought of diorama stuff -- there are nice kits you can buy for history & science. http://scenearama.woodlandscenics.com/ Obviously, JMHO!! YHZNS
Thanks for the input! I think I am going to skip the kit. My daughter really loves ancient Egypt. We haven't started SOTW yet but she has read a lot of books about mummies, the pyramids, etc. Yesterday, she built "Egypt" out of pattern blocks. She made little pyramids, the Sphinx, an oasis, etc. I wish I had had my camera. The second link gave me an idea. I think I am going to get her some sculting clay, tools, and paints. Thanks again! Alessandra
There is also a site where that sells molds to make architectural things -- I'll have to look it up later. Got to run now.
