LadyAberlin
Is anyone here an ophthalmic tech or have been one? I'm looking into becoming one. I was wondering what the job was like. Thanks

TXMomof4
I worked as an OA before I had kids. I loved the job. The dr. I worked for specialized in cataract sx and Lasik - this was back when lasik was still part of an FDA study. I really did enjoy the work. I would take the patient back, get their history and whatever complaint they had. Check vision, do the refraction (which lens is better 1 or 2), and follow the dr in when he did the exam. I also assisted in cataract surgery in pre-op, in the operating room, and in post-op. Different techs had different jobs - one girl was responsible for ordering all the meds we kept on hand and med. supplies, I kept the FDA records for the lasik studies, some girls worked with insurance, we had a plastic surgeon who had an OA to help him. The best part was I had lasik done for free - 10 years ago now. It definately is a job I would look into again if I had to go back to work for some reason. LadyAberlin
Thanks for the info. I just applied for the job tonight. I hope they pay enough. It sounds like something I would really like and it is 5 minutes from my house, which is a huge plus!
