Guest laurajill
Hi, I am a co-director of a classical co-op for grades K-8. We follow the WTM and are looking for physics suggestions for our classes next year. The breakdown is 1st/2nd grade, 3rd-5th, and 6th-8th. We used Adventures with Atoms and Molecules this year for Chemistry for the younger 2 classes and a variety of things for the older one. I would like something a little more rigorous and structured for next year. For example, it was hard to find reading to supplement some of the experiments. I would like something that has a text to go with the experiments. Suggestions for ANY of the 3 age groups is appreciated! Laura
mcconnellboys
You might look at the Prentice Hall Science Explorer titles for middle school. They are full color and combine some experiments and have chapter questions, vocab, etc. Activity guides are available for them, too. I like Science in a Nutshell kits, especially for groups, but they have virtually no background text. I own a book called Hands on Science, Volume I, Particles in Motion: Thermodynamics, Weather, Aerodynamics, Astronomy, by Elizabeth Brough, although I have not used it yet. It claims to be a "one year science curriculum for Kindergarten through Sixth Grade Levels". It combines some text with written activities and experiments, too. It is in b/w but does have some illustrations. It gives a breakdown at the front of the book for different grade levels and what to expect from each. charlotteb
We have worked through Noeo Physics II this year and love it! It uses a few different resources and they go together so well. Its a good mix of experiments, reading, writing, etc. They also have a level I program. I think level 1 is 1-3 grades and level 2 is 4-6.
