momtolgd
Looking for ideas for science. I've posted before that it's the one thing we just don't seem to get to on a regular basis. I'm trying to get a plan in place for next year because I will also be starting a home daycare...I need to have a plan to make it all work. Right now we are just learning about different animals through books and dvds, and reading through the Usborne First Encyclopedia of Our World together a couple pages at a time. I plan to study plants in the spring to go along with planting flowers and a garden. Science is the one thing I just don't know what to try to actually get it done. Next year the kids will be 9 and 7. Thanks. :001_smile:
Miss Marple
Have you checked out Singapore Science? I used their old science series with all my boys and liked it better than anything else I saw/used. It was called Primary Science. I don't know if the new series is similar or not. Right now I'm using their High School level sciences with my kids (and in our co-op).
TracyR
We are enjoying our Apologia science Zoology 2 Swimming Creatures of the 5th day. They also have Astronomy , Botony , and Zoology 1 Flying Creatures and Zoology 3 Land Animals. You can easily combine your 9 and 7yr old with these science courses. I like how they focus on one topic at a time.
Lovedtodeath
I love the God's Design books. Every lesson includes a hands-on experiment or activity, along with information on the topic. All you need to add is a resource with pictures, or for a middler, some deeper information (the God's Design book has research questions at the end of each lesson for this purpose). Both of these goals are easily accomplished with DK E-guides. It is so simple to not have to gather multiple books on each subject in typical WTM or CM fashion. If you want to gather more books, there is an optional list of additional resources in each God's Design book. I'm sold!

G5052
I used their grade 3-5 programs with my kids combined and loved it. This year we're using Sonlight 5, and I wish that I just done BJUP Science 6.
Lovedtodeath
I definitely plan to use Real Science 4 kids for Chemistry. I am anxiously awaiting the new TWTM recommendations for elementary physics. The Winterpromise program guide that I have is really wonderful and easy to follow. I hope they have a new science program out in the spring. We are using Shoot & Sprout, Buzz & Bite (1st-4th) Edited January 31, 2009 by Lovedtodeath
