Narrowing down our switch to a new Language Arts...help me decide

I'm still trying to make a decision here (getting out of PLL), so I thought I'd post in a new thread. Which one of these is pick-up-and-go, complete, and not terribly daunting for my dd9 who gets frustrated easily? :001_smile:

1) Classical Writing (Aesop), with Easy Grammar (because I have this already and it's easy, indeed) (or, I could buy Harvey's Grammar from the CW website), with Spelling Power (have this already, too)

2) WWE - along with Easy Grammar (and Spelling Power)

3) Rod and Staff English

Thoughts? I'm still so new at home schooling and don't know all that's out there, plus it's hard for me to tell by the samples online what's really suitable.

Thanks so much :grouphug:

I love Rod & Staff.

But I don't do their writing. We're doing WWE, and my older 2 boys will start Imitations in Writing Aesop in the next few months and then eventually move into CW Homer.

And we either use Spelling Power or Flash Kids Spelling Skills workbooks.

But as far as basic grammar instruction goes, I love Rod & Staff. It's definitely pick up and go. And you can modify it easily for your dd if she gets overwhelmed--do some exercises orally, cut the written work down, etc.

Isn't it fun being a newbie hser?:D

It's so hard to know, but I'll go with one of your choices which includes Easy Grammar. That narrows it down just a bit, lol. Although I do like R&S's English series, and I recommend it to folks who know for sure they want a textbook, I still really like Easy Grammar.

Can't help you with choosing the others, though. I like Writing Strands :-)

Initially, I'll say that I like to seperate the subjects. It's just so much easier to replace grammar, for example, if it's not working.

As for specific choices, my vote would be for EG and WWE. I don't have any experience with EG (We use FLL & GWG.), but as another poster said, if you're happy with it, don't change.

We love WWE. It is so rich and thorough without being daunting. I already embrace the belief that copywork, dictation, and narration are all you need for the Grammar Stage along with the idea that original writing is just too hard for most dc. SWB just makes it so much easier by choosing the literature passages and setting everything up for you so nicely.
