Kfamily
This is a follow-up to my pre-algebra question.:D LCC recommends NEM to follow Singapore in 7th grade. I've always steered away from it because it doesn't follow the traditional sequence and seemed too hard for an average math student with an equally average math teacher mom? Is this the right way to think about this? Please, be honest....:001_smile: Thank you!
Sandy in Indy
We tried it...and didn't do so well. Mom (me) is very average in math and DS is really good in math (and had done the Singapore Primary series). He got stuck in the first chapter and I couldn't help him. That's just our experience.... I have NEM 1 only, and I have closely looked over the textbook. I can share with you rule number 1 on the Problem Solving Tips for the Student: 1. Accept the problem ~ Accept the challenge to solve unfamiliar or difficult problems. In other words, bravery is rule number one....:D I did not think the textbook looked that bad in terms of difficulty; the one I have here is the new revised edition. I plan to use it with my daughter along with some American Math books which include math axioms and proofs. NEM 1 is strong in how it addresses concepts and applications for math. It goes deep and concepts are presented in a clear way. It is similar to Primary Math 1-6. Creative thinking is expected from the student. You could always get it and supplement with it to strengthen another math program if you were to find it did not work for you. Good Luck:)
Kfamily
I think I will consider this some more...weigh out some costs, etc. I may get this and use it as a supplement if it proves too much. Thank you!
