salinda
Has anyone here used the upper levels of History Odyssey from Pandia Press? I've been looking at their website and it looks really interesting. I'm hoping for feedback one way or another. I'm pondering 9th grade history. I also want to add how greatful I am to all of you Moms who take the time to respond to questions. I have learned so much from reading this high school board and I thank you. Kareni
I seem to remember Nicole M posting about it, but couldn't locate information by searching. I did find these two posts: History Odyssey by Pandia Press and http://www.welltrainedmind.com/forums/showpost.php?p=302970&postcount=42 Regards, Kareni
nmoira
There's a History Odyssey Yahoo! group which is generally helpful.
rwalizer
We used HO for middle ages at the middle school level and I really liked it. The only reason I switched over to trisms was because they (trisms) include literature study and composition. I like the idea of not having a separate lit. and another curriculum for comp. We save time this way. See what their return policy is and maybe you can order what you are interested in and return it if you don't like it. Kathie in VA
hmm, about how much time per day and # days/wk does it take for this at the high school level?
mamaof2andtwins
We are using Level 2 Ancients for my 7th and 9th grader. I was all set to use Level 3 with my 9th grader, but after having a few email conversations with the author, I decided that Level 2 would be better. We had just come off of 5 years of SOTW, and I did not beef it up for him. So, it would have been an incredible jump to go from SOTW level 4 to HO Ancients Level 3. Even the author's daughter used much of Level 2 through high school. She did include some of the level 3 reading. I do have much of the material for HO Ancients Level 3, and I would say that it is quite advanced and would be great for a gifted student or a student who had a solid level 2 experience in middle school. It is possible that after having some level 2 experience I could bounce him up to level 3 in a year. I would say the level 3 main text requires some good critical reading skills. I know my son could not have manage to outline that reading. He might have been able to summarize it but not outline it. Also, we are having a hard time find the How to Read: How to Read a Book. That is the supplementary workbook for the first 6 weeks of Ancients as the students are reading through How to Read a Book. I ordered it, but it has been backordered. HTH! mamaof2andtwins
I just wanted to mention that Pandia Press has a "Try it Before You Buy It" feature. You can basically look at the first 1/3 of each study guide. This should give you a good sense of what the program is like. Jennie

Jennie, This thread has information on contacting the author of How to Read How to Read a Book. Perhaps it will help you purchase a copy.
