jonesloonybin
I am doing up a lesson plan for Rocks & Minerals and one of experiments call for Black copper oxide. You heat it in a test tube with powdered charcoal and the copper will separate out. I am having a hard time finding a place to buy it. Do you know where I can buy this. Or an alternative experiment that will separate out the copper?? Thanks!
Jenny in Atl
Do you have a local ceramics supply place near you? They should have it. It's often used as an under glaze/stain.

Jean in Newcastle
If that doesn't work try calling Home Science Tools (1-800- 860-6272) or http://www.homesciencetools.com They sell chemicals for experiments. They don't have black copper oxide listed but they do have a cupric sulfate and cupric chloride listed. Cupric oxide is another name for black copper oxide - I think. So you might ask them if one of these other chemicals would work.
Snickerdoodle
Cupric oxide is another name for black copper oxide - I think. Yes, don't forget to check MSDS sheets to find more technical names for products you need.
