Alexandra
with this problem. A relative had someone set up a UPS account in her name with the arrangement that a package was to be picked up every day from her house. She called UPS and they suggested she call her bank to see if anything had been hacked or compromised. She found out that someone had in fact gotten in there too. Now she is trying to pick up the pieces and protect herself. Any advice or BTDT? Thanks so much! Alexandra
OH Kim
The general advice is this: contact the three credit bureaus and tell them. I personally would close all my accounts right away. I'd probably even move to a different bank, but that's just my paranoia speaking. Check credit card/debit card/bank balances daily, if not more. There's a lot about it on the net. Hillary in KS
In addition to what's being done, she should file a police report. If anything's been done in her name, a police report helps creditors confirm that fraud was involved.
Sandy in Indy
File a report immediately! All the credit bureau websites have a section for fraud/identity theft. Put a flag on your credit report so that you are notified when anyone accesses your report. File with the police.
