Quick answer needed. Is it safe to transmit creditcard info over fax?

Recommended Posts

If the other side is good about picking up faxes and securing them, you're actually more secure than saying your credit card number over the phone. Phone conversations are NOT secure at all, particularly if you use a cell or portable phone. The level of sophistication needed to pick up a phone conversation is pretty low if you're determined. The equipment and skill needed to pick up a fax is more difficult, and frankly rarely done because it so much harder. Internet fraud is much more common because so few websites truly have the security that they say they have.

I still shop on Internet, but I don't trust any of them. Thirty years of working with computers and those who manage them hasn't given me much confidence at all.
