What is your favorite place to eat dinner at Disney World? more...

Recommended Posts

We are going to Disney World end of March. We are going for a week with a large group of family (18 people). We have babies to grandparents. Our family gets to choose one place to have dinner. I haven't ever been there before. My 10yodd is scouring the books for best reviews and suggestions.

I thought I would ask those who have BTDT!

Thanks.

There are many good restaurants there (a far cry from years ago when everything tasted like cardboard). We LOVED Boma in the Animal Kingdom Lodge. It's an African buffet but had plenty of American food to offer as well. I think everyone could find something they would enjoy eating.

The Whispering Canyon Cafe in the Wilderness Lodge is a fun place to eat. It's bbq, which is not really my thing, but it is a really fun time. If you like bbq, that's one I'd recommend.

We ate at the smaller of the two restaurants in the Polynesian resort and enjoyed it.

If you like steak there is Le Cellier in Canada in EPCOT (HIGHLY recommended here - we couldn't get a reservation 5 months in advance).

Tutto Italia in EPCOT was really good Italian (and I'm not a huge Italian fan), as was Tony's in Magic Kingdom.

Crystal Palace is always highly recommended, but the food is very basic and not what I'm looking for when I go out.

Also, though I'm sure what you're looking for is a sit-down meal with the family, if you need a quick lunch in Animal Kingdom, the Flame-tree BBQ is a must! The shredded bbq pork sandwich lunch is FANTASTIC!!

Hope this helps you some. We're starting to plan our trip for later this year. It's SO much fun!

Oooh, there's just so many LOL!!

We LOVE character meals. Our very fav is probably either 1900 Park Fare in the Grand Floridian resort or the Garden Grille in Epcot. But we also like Chef Mickey's too......and O'hanas for breakfast.

Whispering Canyon has a great atmosphere. Or you could do the new T-Rex Cafe at Downtown Disney. The atmosphere and decor is awesome.

We loved the Garden Grill at EPCOT. It is a character meal. We liked how the floor moves as you eat.

There is one called the Sci-Fi one where you sit in a car. That was fun.

We are going the first week of March. Did you take advantage of the Disney deal? The free extra nights at their hotels? We did. That's why we are going. We purchased the meal plan and we are going to the places we went to eat and more.

We are doing the Hoopty Doo this time. Don't know what it is!

Blessings in your journey!

Sincerely,

Karen

The restaurant in the Animal Kingdom hotel for African type food that you may never try anywhere else (they also have regular food - buffet style).

Sci - Fi diner is fun.

Donald's Breakfast something or other in Animal Kingdom - character breakfast

Chef Mickeys in the Contemporary Hotel - character meal - so fun and you won't have to get in the lines for autographs.

We did just eat at Teppan Edo and it was great. But we didn't have a bad meal at Disney anywhere!

Folks with young children seem to love to eat in the food court area at The Land exhibit in Epcot (it was PACKED when we were there). The French bistro in the France area at Epcot was also packed and the food looked yummy. Even the stands along the way were serving great drinks and treats there!

The bbq at Animal Kingdom is terrific! There are various levels of outdoor seating where you could convene a large crowd of folks.

Captain Jack's, at Disney Marketplace, and the Dinosaur themed restaurant (like Rain Forest Cafe, but with much better food) that someone already mentioned were both great. Fulton's, also there, is much more expensive, but I've heard it is also great.

We stayed at Port Orleans this time and ate at the food court there mornings and a few other times, too, and the food was always very good.

We ate fish and chips in the Magic Kingdom one day, at at the Cosmic Cafe in Tomorrowland another and both were good, as always.

1. 1900 Park Fare at the Grand Floridian, buffet character meal, has YUMMY strawberry soup. If you go there, look for the soup--it's on both the breakfast and dinner buffets. I have the recipe, and it's very popular in my house in the summer.

2. We didn't love Boma. We loved AKL generally, but not necessarily Boma.

3. Whispering Canyon cafe is very fun-the wait staff throw straws at you, and there are games for the kids. If you go, be sure to ask your wait person for ketchup.

4. I might be remembering the name of this wrong, but the English restaurant in EPCOT--Rose & Crown? is yummy, and the staff are very friendly. It is often possible to get in there without reservations.

5. If you're adventurous diners, the Moroccan restaurant is fun and easy to get into. A belly dancer entertains.

There's a place at the Contemporary Resort, I think it's called the California Grill, that is wonderful, my favorite place.

If you have the chance I recommend the Kona Cafe for breakfast. It's on the second floor of the Polynesian. They serve wonderful, tropical fruit with their dishes. The fruit platter and blueberry pancakes are terrific.

Karen,

We do have Grand Gatherings. My inlaws did all the planning with a Disney "specialist". I know that we are staying in the Polynesian (because it is on the monorail). I know that we are going to a Luau, to a fireworks show, to Mickey's Backyard BBQ, to a behind the scenes tour of Animal Kingdom, I think another show. I don't have the itinerary- so I am remembering off the top of my head.

We are really excited about going. I have never been. I grew up in the Southwest and went to DisneyLand often. My husband has been. The kids are all really excited. My 10 yodd has been reading all the guide for nearly a year to find out all the best stuff. They are really excited about the hidden Mickey's.

Thanks for all the great suggestions. I will bring them up before the family council and see what everyone like.

For a gathering of that size, I would suggest the Biergarten in Germany at Epcot. They have large tables that would allow you all to sit together. Now if you are thinking smaller groups, I have loved Le Cellier and Chef de France. If you are thinking of Whispering Canyon be forewarned the restaurant is VERY loud. If you have anyone traveling with noise sensitivities this could be a problem. I liked the food well enough, by my then 3.5 yo cried the whole time.

If your willing to go off of disney property there is a fantastic dinner show called "Medival Times"...so awsome.. You are seated around a jousting arena in colored sections that belong to each "Knight" and you are served food and drink by "wenches" while you watch and hoop and hollar for your "Knight" to win the jousting on real horse's and sword fighting...(but not scary in ANY way for the younger kids)...they are trying to win the hand of the princess.....

There is also a Pirate shipped theme at another location that is also just as fun..Pirates swinging by ropes on a HUGE ship sword fights..cannons...and some more "wenches" serving you food while you cheer for your "pirate" I forget the name of it but you can find it by seaching for "Dinner Shows" in orlando...hope this helps.

I loved Boma. My kids were okay with it. In fact, I think I actually cried there. The chef was amazing and dealt with our food allergies in such a way that I felt like a princess. Someone else mentioned the fish place at EPCOT. We liked that, but I didn't think the food was anything special. Our food at the belly dancer place was not great, either.

But I would go back just for Boma and the italian place at MGM.

I think they should have more places to get lattes in all of the parks. Drink your caffeine before you get there.

How great that you are staying at the Polynesian. We loved their O'Hana restaurant. The food was fantastic and it was served family style, so we could give the kiddos as much or as little as they wanted. There were also coconut races and hula dance lessons during the meal for those who couldn't sit still. It was a very lively meal but a tremendously tasty one also!

Boma didn't do much for us, nor did Shutters, the restaurant at the Carribean Beach Resort. We did like the Coral Reef Restaurant. I love it as a break in the action, all cool and dim, with the relaxing view of the aquarium all along one wall. We always feel so refreshed after a meal there.

18 people? You need to start booking reservations very, very soon! We went in mid-December, a grand gathering of only 8 people, and it was nearly impossible to get reservations ANYWHERE.

For table service, we ate at the Coral Reef in EPCOT (very good food, fun desserts and atmosphere) and Yak and Yeti in Animal Kingdom (also very good food, large portions, good desserts). In the past, we've enjoyed the Grand Floridian Cafe, but the menu has changed since we've been there.

For counter service, Cosmic Ray's at the Magic Kingdom has a lot of variety, generally large portions, and good quality.

edited because I read the next reply and realized I meant Yak and Yeti, not Tusker House!
