Is MFW worth owning for lists & activities?

Specifically, I'm looking at CTG and the more I look at it, I'm

wondering if it is indeed a good fit for us.

I'm a person that tends to tweak, substitute, & drop things

on a SL schedule. So is the CTG manual worth owning if I will

basically tear it apart anyways? I would use the manual for the

activities and booklist but then I wonder if there are enough

good ideas to justify the cost of the TM? The weekly schedule

would most likely not be used much if at all.

I've poured over Paula's site and am really interested in

combining Bible and SOTW 1 together. I'm leaning toward

this, however I don't want to have to pull it all together

myself if MFW has done a better job.

Looking forward to your responses :)

My experience has been, that I used SOTW 1 and Paula's Archive schedule combining MOH and the chronological schedule for Egermeier's Bible Story Book. I jumped ship mid yr on MOH, which I hated to do because I also was looking for the bible integrated to SOTW. It felt disjointed, and MOH was just not on my dc levels. IMO, I think MOH is better for the logic and rhetoric stage. And even though we were reading the bible along with SOTW "correlation" of the bible to it was still void. So this year we are doing MFW Adventures. Marie Hazell does an awesome job combining/writing this bible/history.

I have been surprised at how I have followed the TM to a tee, for me, it was so easy to follow. I WANTED to follow it because it was so awesome!

I do know that Cadam has mentioned that she cuts the grid apart and rearranges her week. But I don't think she changes the content. The activites and book lists at the back are great. I go to my public library to check out my books and I always find them.

Maybe Cadam will be by to give her expertise!!

:iagree: I love the open and go format of MFW and I follow the TM as is, also. In the TM, there are daily plans written out and there is an enclosed grid with those same plans displayed in the boxes so that you can see what you are doing each day. I didn't have to use Microsoft Word or Excel this year because of this. I love it! MFW gives suggestions for those subjects not included in the packages such as LA, Foreign Language and Math so those grid boxes are empty for your choice of curriculum. I simply write the weekly plans for LA, Math and Foreign Language into those boxes. It's so easy!

I know a few tweakers and if you are, MFW may not work for you. Some tweakers just can't stop tweakin'.

But MFW IS very well planned. We will be using CTG in the upcoming year also. I love how it uses the Bible as a spine along with SOC.

Kysha,

I did this too. For the boxes in the grid that are blank I pencil in my "core plans" in them and I have my whole day open in front of me every morning. It's awesome!!!

That cracked me up! I nearly choked on my cup of coffee

I really like the look of MFW and if what CC says is true about using

Egermier's and SOTW, then that pretty much makes my decision for

me. I am trying to eliminate the whole disjointed feeling with Bible

& history. I've looked at MOH, TG, Biblioplan and they are just more

than I can even imagine being able to accomplish.

I appreciate your replies!!

All Through the Ages is a good list for combining secular and Biblical history, but it's just a list of books.

These timeline figures have both, that's what we're using (scroll down to world history):

I'm putting together things on my own from these lists for now for history. My daughter loves to draw, she'll listen to a lot more information when she gets to color in the timeline figures while learning about them. Normally, one chapter of the Bible is enough for her at a time. While coloring the figures, we go through 4 or 5 chapters at a time. We got a new set of 24 prismacolor pencils to color with, she's loving them. We bought a cheap set of regular colored pencils to placate her brother.

;)I admit it, I'm a tweaker and I have used MFW for 6 years as well as having used their pre-k stuff. I have used MFW for my main curriculum for all three of mine. 6th, 3rd and 3rd. MFW is my base and then I add from there. I very rarely subtract because of the great job that Marie Hazell does pulling everything together. I do move things around and I add books from SL for reading and other read alouds but if you do MFW for nothing else then (imho) it for the Bible and character training then it would be worth it. Also, the activities in CtG are great! We had such a great year doing the feasts and festivals which were all planned out for me - including menus. I didn't have to pull it all together by myself and the kids had a great time and learned so much.

I guess I'm more of a lazy tweaker. I like the option of not doing something or putting in something better, but prefer not to have to start from scratch. I will create my own if what I want doesn't currently exist. But from the reviews given, MFW sounds like exactly what I want.

Elizabeth - thanks for you rec on Nothing New Press. I've not seen this before and it looks interesting. I will admit that at this stage in my life, I think ALL those choices would overwhelm me. But it might be nice as a handy list for additional tweakiness. :D
