Amber in AUS
Just wondering if anyone has heard of this program, Light Education Ministries or LEM phonics. You can see here https://www.lem.com.au/welcome.html Is it CLE rebadged? It looks fairly thorough and looks a little like it draws from TWRTR, possibly? Just wanting thoughts, good or bad. Thanks
keptwoman
Yes it's based on WRTR. I don't think it's used outside of Australia. I haven't used it myself but know of a number of very happy users and I've seen it and I think it's excellent. For an Aussie it makes far more sense to use that than any of the US WRTR versions. I bought SWR because I didn't know about LEM when I purchased. Given my time over I'd get LEM.
Amber in AUS
Cool, sounds good then. Thanks!!
ajjkt
I know our local ps uses this (in Melbourne). They seem to lean more heavily on Letterland, though. My kids use SWR and seem to have a far better knowledge of phonics and spelling rules. Whether this is for virtue of small group (mum and two kids) rather than classroom, or the method of implementation, I don't know.
keptwoman
I'd say that's just the classroom application. The actual program has strong emphasis on both the phonograms (a little different than SWR as it accounts for the Aussie accent) and the rules. In fact I thought the rules were more comprehensive than SWR in some ways.
Amber in AUS
I have arranged with someone here to go and have a look at their books IRL which is nice. I have not seen SWR to compare it to but do have WRTR to take along as a bit of a comparison. DD is reading well but hating ETC so i'm just looking at alternatives. This could be a very good way to get DS started too as he is wanting to read but wont sit for 100EZ so learning the phonograms might be a good intro for him and refresher for DD. Am i talking myself into this or what??? Will wait and see the books but i am liking what i am reading in WRTR. We are also using Websters which i will continue with. ajjkt
It would be good to see it IRL. If you are in Melbourne, you are welcome to compare it to our SWR. PM me if you are interested.
