Tani
I need to figure what to buy for my dd. She has done 1yr IEW and WT2. She still needs a solid foundation for writing, something I can teach, kwim? CW looks like it will fit the bill and be challenging for her, something she needs. She is in 6th grade, should I do Aesop and Homer for Older Beginners? Or, go straight into Homer? Also, do you use the Harveys grammer or some other grammer program? I appreciate all the of you assisting me in this.
Kfamily
My dd is in 6th and we will be starting CW next month as we are just finishing Writing Tales 2. We are going to start with Homer A but I know that other moms have started with Older Beginners. I would say that it depends on the child. My dd really needs to go slowly and carefully and she also has not had a serious grammar couse yet so I wanted to start with Homer and Harvey's at a slightly slower pace. Having said that though, Homer should take 2 school years and I am hoping to finish it in 1 year and a half as well as get in at least Poetry for Beginners A. We school year round so I think we can do this. I need dd to be ready for Diogenes Maxim at the beginning of 8th. Hopefully moms more experienced or knowledgeable will help too. Testimony
go straight to Homer A. Writing Tales 2 gives you enough to go straight into Homer. That is a quote from my good friend Amy from Writing Tales. Blessings in your homeschooling journey! siloam
I too would do Homer A. In addition I plan to try Harvey's, but if it doesn't click for me then I will fall back to doing Analytical Grammar. Heather
Tohru
What is Writing Tales? I just bought IEW thinking it would teach writing and I wouldn't need anything after that. So, ds would still need something else after IEW Student Intensive?
Friederike in Persia
We've started CW a few months ago and I've moved my dd9, who's a good writer, up to Homer. Even if your dc doesn't know all the grammar yet, it should be reasonably easy to catch up on it. Harvey's Elementary Grammar has it all, for example. You asked about Harvey's too. I'm not so sure about it yet. My older dd (9) is doing all right with it, but she's a very compliant and hard working student. How on earth the younger dd will do with it I'm not sure (that would be the one who doesn't like writing :D). My older one's comment about it was: "It's just like my Tajik text books!" She goes to local school here, and the text books are far removed from live and hard work.:001_huh:
Tani
and I needed to get her back into something more structured than what we have been doing. I guess mostly for me:tongue_smilie: She loved WT 2 so hopefully she will like this as well. Many blessings to all of you. I just LOVE this board:bigear:
Beth in SW WA
Tani, You can email the authors of the CW books via the Classical Writing message boards. Go to http://www.classicalwriting.com and click on message boards. Then find Aesop and/or Homer threads. Kathy Weitz is helpful also. She wrote the CW and Harvey workbooks. magistra@classicalwritingtutorials.com
