Halftime Hope
I was reading aloud to ds yesterday, and I had to get up and pace so I wouldn't fall asleep! Arghhh! --I swear it's worse in winter time-- Anyone else?
Harriet Vane
I used to suffer from this, badly. I had strategies for reading aloud to my kids. I would start a pot of water heating and start reading. The whistle of the kettle gave me the opportunity to get up and pour the water into a teapot, thus waking me up a bit. Then I would use the distraction of sipping my tea to keep me going for the rest of the reading. It turns out I was anemic. After nearly eight months of heavy-duty iron supplementation I was finally able to read without that overpowering sleepiness. I still take a maintenance dose of iron each day. The fact that it happens more in winter to you also makes me think of vitamin D deficiency. Like anemia, you can determine this through a simple blood test. You might consider supplementing with vitamin D3 or buying a light therapy box. It really does help with energy level.
