Guest
Do you ever have those days where you are trying to help dh out and end up making things worse?!? I am trying to call companies and reduce bills, negotiate things to try and help cut costs. So, I went out to the garage to look through some old paperwork and set the box on dh's 1958 Ford. When I lifted the box, I noticed that I may have slid it a bit and I totally scratched up the hood. The outside paint is about all that's finished on the car (it's a flat black) and it's totally noticeable. It never in a million years crossed my mind that the box would scratch it. To make matters worse, dh is out in the field today so I can't get ahold of him. I am going to be stressing out all day about how upset my normally calm dh is going to get. And we've been trying to sell this car to help get a down payment on a house. Ever have those days where you feel like.....
Parrothead
Oh, hon, I'm so sorry. Try not to worry too much. You may be able to help by calling some auto body shops and see how much it would cost (ballpark) to get it fixed.

Scarlett
have hope, so of those minor scratches can be polished out This is true. And I can so totally relate...Dh has a restore 69 Chevy pick up in our garage that I give wide berth to. :tongue_smilie:

When I'm in a really rebellious, non-submissive mood, I go lean on the fender for a moment. :D
lynn
I think we have all done those "OMG what am I going to tell dh" things. Just make his favorite dinner or his favorite dessert before you tell him.
Blueridge
I think I would try wiping a tiny bit of BBQ charcoal dust along the scratch to see if it would conceal it...and then make him a BIG dessert and smile really sweet before confessing! or not! :D Ginger
Rhonda in TX
I'm sure they're just surface scratches that can be buffed out. I'm sure it will be fine. My DH is incredibly picky about his cars. Very, very picky. I have (1) knocked over his motorcycle with my car and (2) crunched the right front fender of almost-brand new Z-28. I thought he was going to kill me, but he just kind of shrugged and said, "Oh, well. These things happen." You could have knocked me over with a feather. (We no longer own either of those - they were in our young, kidless days :001_smile:)
Retired
well my dh is not as forgiving about his cars, I have locked myself in a room when we first got married for messing up one of his collectible cars. He was nuts. He has a Harley and a 69 Camaro now and we stay far away. The box may of had a large staple and that type of scratch has to be filled. I have done a emergency repair with nail polish one time when I scratch a 66 mustang of his He didn't notice it for about 6 months. He does all his own body work, so when discovered I couldn't say one of the previous owners did it.:tongue_smilie: The scratches caused by cardboard, can be buffed out. Denisemomof4
My DH is incredibly picky about his cars. Very, very picky. I have (1) knocked over his motorcycle with my car and (2) crunched the right front fender of almost-brand new Z-28. :smilielol5: now that tickles my funny bone to no end, too! I don't know why! I'm the one who keeps my cars impeccable. DH never has. The day my very first horse was delivered (a lifelong dream come true right before my 40th birthday!) I realized that I had been so excited and running around preparing for his arrival that I COMPLETELY forgot to eat that day, and I didn't even think about dinner! So I ran to the local grocery store to pick up something quick. It was about 6:00 p.m. so I was really runninng on empty. (me, not the car.) ;) I had the back of the Suburban packed with shavings, grain, etc. and could see nothing out of my back window. I applied the gas rather quickly (I was in a huge rush - to get back to my horse!) and all of a sudden - BAM!!!!!!!!! WHY the heck do they put TELEPHONE POLES behind a parking space? I crunched up the bumper pretty bad. It was a very warm day and there was TONS of traffic so I was absolutely mortified. I didn't look behind, I simply put my car in drive and took off as if nothing had happened, hoping nobody I knew had seen what I just did. :001_smile: DH didn't get mad at me at all. But when I called a girlfriend to tell her what had happened and about the damage to the car, she asked, "Denise, did you see if any PEOPLE were there?!" I was so embarrassed that I didn't even think of that! Well, embarrassed and running on empty. I didn't leave my house or sleep for 24 hours and left the local news on. I felt that surely a hit and run which ended in injuries or death would be on the local news. I was a wreck. Of course there was never a news story about it, but two days later when dh and I drove past the store, I gasped when I saw the pole. I said, "OMG! Look at what I did to that pole?" Now THAT tickled dh's funny bone to no end. He said a car couldn't have possibly bent the pole like it was, that it had always been like that. So I called numerous friends, all of whom confirmed the crooked pole had nothing to do with me - it was always like that.
Aloha2U
Ok, Monica... this is completely off topic, but in the hopes of trying to cheer you up and make you laugh, I will share a little story with you. First of all let me tell you that there is a couple loads of clean laundry that have accumulated in my bedroom... a little procrastination going, IYKWIM. So when I went to put some jeans on today, I had to sift through the pile for some clean ones. Although a bit wrinkly, I thought no problem... they'll work... I can where these out into the public. Just to make sure, I went to show my dh and ask him because we are always honest with each other. Me: "Honey, how do these look... are they ok?" (In my mind I thought it was understood that ok meant not to wrinkly, right?!) dh: "They look tight!" Well, duh... I knew that with the holiday munchin and all, but that was clearly not the question. LOL! Talk about brutely honest... not his fault though. I guess I walked right into that one!
Guest
Ok, Monica... this is completely off topic, but in the hopes of trying to cheer you up and make you laugh, I will share a little story with you. Thank you! Thank you, all! When I finally got him on the phone this afternoon (I am NOT one to be able to keep something, at all!) I asked him if his car was ruined and he said YES. I hung up on him. (I know, not my best day here.) When he came home, he didn't even want to go outside. I made him, though. He turned around and said, "it's just a car". He's not mad anymore. Talk about a weight lifted. Oh, Lord, help me use my brain in the future!!!! It is a running joke that my cars have a different color paint on all 4 corners. I hate to ruin his stuff, though. :(
