Aubrey
I've been planning to put a roast in the crockpot. I figure I'll add bbq sauce. Is that it? Surely it's harder than that. Fwiw, I haven't thawed my roast, but after googling, it looks like it can still be ready in 5 hrs. Yes?
lynn
I usually put in mustard, bbq sauce, chicken brother(or water and bullion), sliced onion but just bbq sauce is find. 5-6hrs on high for an unthawed roast should be enough time. Alice
I just use BBQ sauce and it's fine.
joannqn
On high should be just fine. I like to add some bbq sauce to the meat after I've shredded it to give it more flavor. Cooking it in the sauce is good but the juices from the meat will water it down a ton so it won't have a lot of bbq flavor.
jojomojo
I'm not sure about the timing, but I agree that it should be fine to just add the sauce (we do that with country style ribs and they come out great!). I usually cook a big roast with an onion soup mix packet (or 2) and water. Then shred the roast up and divide it up into bags for the freezer. Then when I need a quick meal, I just pull a bag out, heat it up, mix in some bbq sauce and we're good to go :)
StaceyinLA
a little water in the crock pot would be okay. Once it is shreddable, drain off most of the liquid and shred it. Then add bbq sauce and any seasonings you might like (garlic, salt, pepper, a little brown sugar, etc). Let simmer til ready to serve.
