Aubrey
I made a shepherd pie type thing yesterday for a late lunch--2ish, I think. It had pre-cooked pre-sliced ham + canned veggies, cr of soup, fake mashed potatoes. Ok, ok, maybe it shouldn't have been eaten to start w/, lol, but dh & dc love it. Anyway, I went to the store right after lunch--left dh & the dc still eating. When I got home, I forgot about it. I didn't put it in the fridge until this morning around 8:30. It's half a casserole, though, & I can't stand the thought of throwing it out. beansprouts
That meal has plenty of preservatives. ;)
Wendi
Two hours is the guideline for how long perishable food should be at room temperature. That's way over two hours! I know you hate to throw away food that you bought and worked to prepare, but the risk of sickness in your kiddos isn't worth it, IMO. Is it even biodegradeable??? ETA: *Said as she sips another Diet Pepsi* Edited January 9, 2009 by beansprouts
JudoMom
That meal has plenty of preservatives. ;) :smilielol5: That was my first thought! I'd eat it, as long as it wasn't hot in your apt. and as long as it didn't smell funky.
Tammy
Really? I ALWAYS leave my cooked food out all day....and put it in the fridge when I go to bed. I cook around 1pm-2pm.....my grandmother did the same.....I should probably be dead by now :-)
Harriet Vane
No. I took a class in college and learned far too much about food toxins--stuff I'd really rather forget, to be honest. Preservatives or not, meat that is left warm that long harbors all kinds of nasty food toxins. It's just not worth it.
In the Rain
I wouldn't eat it. If it had been left out a little too long, I might eat it after getting it really hot again. This was left out a really long time though. I don't think food poisoning is something to mess with. JMHO

Jumping In Puddles
The question is: Is it perishable? Even though there is a lot of preservatives in it, it is also very moist and could go off pretty quickly.
