RoughCollie
First, is it true that the tub/shower won't get soap scum on it if one uses liquid soap instead of bar soap? Second, how do you use it? Do you just squirt some onto your washcloth? How do you get the washcloth soapy all over? Thanks, RC
Suzanne in ABQ
Yes, it's true that you won't get soap scum from liquid soap. Soap scum is made of dirt, oil, dead skin cells, and soap. They all mix together, and dry, and harden on the shower/tub surfaces. If you use liquid soap, all the dirt, oil, and dead skin cells rinse clean away. You use it just as you would bar soap. Simply squirt some into a washcloth, or one of those nylon mesh scrubber thingies (these make lots of bubbles), or your hand. Rub it around in your hands to make a lather, and wash. For a wash cloth, spread the very wet cloth across your hand, and squirt the soap all around, then ball it up and squish it and rub it between your hands. This will spread the bubbles throughout the cloth.

We still have to clean the shower glass and squeegee after every shower - more or less. I personally never use a washcloth, I just squirt some in the palm of my hand...What I like the most about liquid soap is that there is no bar that can wildly jump out of your slippery hand and ricochet around the shower stall. :tongue_smilie: Edited January 8, 2009 by Liz CA
RoughCollie
Thank you! I'm going to try to persuade my family to switch over to liquid soap. Now that washing the tub is a kid chore, and DH has to clean his own shower, that should be easier. :D I thought body wash was an unnecessary, newfangled product, so I have never tried it. If it does away with soap scum, that's good enough for me. RC
elegantlion
WE've used body wash for years. It does make a difference, but you still have to clean the tub. We use the nylon scrungies(SP?). I tried using some soap the other day and I felt like I still had a film on me.
Janet in Toronto
We still get soap scum on shower walls and door, but I much prefer liquid soap as I find it less drying. The new Ivory product is very nice. I use a nylon puff, put a small amount of liquid soap in it, and can do my whole body with one tablespoon of soap. Jen500
I don't like bar soap because of the soap scum and I've read that bacteria can live on it. We also have hard water and that leaves a hard film on the shower walls. Squeegies help with that. Now if I could get dh to use liquid soap I'd be happy. Ellie
I wish the bit about "no soap scum" was true for us. We still have to clean the shower glass and squeegee after every shower - more or less. But that isn't soap scum. It's minerals from the water spraying on the shower doors and walls.
RoughCollie
I just want to be able to clean the tub, or have the kids do it, and not need stinky chemicals to get the soap scum off. We will still clean our tub! I am going to miss my Lever 2000 body parts soap, though. ETA: Never mind, they have a body wash. Gosh, I guess just about every soap company has a body wash. I really missed the bandwagon on this one. Again. Same bandwagon, millionth verse. Edited January 8, 2009 by RoughCollie
Liz CA
But that isn't soap scum. It's minerals from the water spraying on the shower doors and walls. That means I have never experienced soap scum! Yeah! We've been using bodywash forever. I suppose I was picturing a self-cleaning shower when I read the above post. Wouldn't that be worth something? And while we're at it: how about laundry that crawls out of the washer/dryer and walks to the closet???
Suzanne in ABQ
It doesn't do away with hard water problems (if you have hard water), but if you rinse the walls and doors and floor before getting out (I have a hand-held sprayer shower), you won't get soap build-up on the the shower surfaces.
