Oak Knoll Mom
Due to illness and my own lack of discipline my boys are a little behind in some of their studies (and ahead in a lot of other areas). I've come up with a solution for getting them back on track with most things, but I'm a little panicked about math. RightStart just doesn't lend itself well to combining lessons and skipping review lessons like I'm doing with some of their other subjects. Anyone have any thoughts? They are bright boys and really do need to be moved quickly back up to grade level. (And please, don't beat me up for letting them get behind...I'm doing enough of that all by myself.) King Alfred Academy
First off...stop beating yourself up about them getting behind! Life happens. It's alright. Next...my oldest is behind as well. He is almost through Level B and "should"...but by whose standards?... be 1/2 through Level C. My plan is this...do four lessons a week even through summer. He'll get caught up eventually. No biggie. BUT...stop beating yourself up! :001_smile:
Greta
I'm much too busy beating myself up to start beating on you! We're behind where we "should" be in RightStart as well, so I am in the same boat. Is there any homeschooling family who has never gotten behind? Well, if there is, I don't want to know about it! :D I agree that RightStart does not lend itself well to combining lessons and skipping reviews and such. So we are going to do it six days a week until we get caught up (the rest of our schoolwork is five days a week). We school year-round, so this is the only way I know to catch up. If you break over the summer, you could always break in your other subjects and keep doing math. Good luck, and don't worry about it. You'll get caught up! Goldilocks
This may be a question for another post... What ages correspond to the RightStart level? If B is 1st grade and C is 2nd... the child will finish elementary math in the 4th grade, right? So, maybe the OP is not really behind at all? I think I'll just plan on doing extra lessons until he's where I think he should be. Right now that will be five days a week and after this semester of Classical Conversations is over we'll be able to do them six days a week. My goal is to be at grade level by the summer before 5th grade...hopefully I'll reach that goal much sooner!

My goal is to be through with RightStart by the end of fourth grade and then switch over to BJU for a few grades until they are ready for Videotext Algebra in 7th or 8th grade. Even though I don't *want* to still be doing RightStart in 5th, I'll be ok with it if we have to.
