abbeyej
I have a cold or strep or something. I don't know, but I feel horrid. That's bad enough, but now I have a pink rash across my cheeks that's burning and uncomfortable. I've had lupus symptoms in the past, but nothing major in several years, and never saw a rheumatologist or had an official diagnosis. I don't know what this is, but it *seems* to be related to this illness or the immune reaction (I started coughing yesterday and have a bad sore throat. I'm not coughing much now, but when I do, the episodes feel like I'm drowning. Low fever, no voice, feel like I've been run over by a truck, sore joints, tired...)... But in reading, it doesn't seem like a Lupus malar rash should burn? I can't even remember from so long ago what it used to be like. I haven't been out in the sun today. Anyway, I don't know if anyone has advice. If I'm not better tomorrow, I'll go in for a strep culture (to be careful about ds' PANDAS), but my primary care doctor is pretty useless, sigh. Maybe I just want sympathy. Or coddling. lol... sigh.
Janna
I can't help you, but will very willingly give you hugs and sympathy! I'm so sorry you are feeling poorly, Abbey. There's a lot of cr*p going around right now. Do see your Dr. I will pray he/she is not useless for you. Do let me know if something comes of it. I say this only because my ds has had a cold which turned into croup, which is now just a bad cough - the kind that is productive and just sounds, well, disgusting to be honest, LOL. Anyway, I've noticed the last 2 days in a row that his cheeks have been red. I keep feeling his forehead which is not warm in the least. I have asked him if he's hot, or if he's feeling all right, which he assures me he is. But it's kinda odd. Today I was thinking he almost looks like he has a sunburn. But I don't think it's Fifth's disease (is that the slapped-cheek one?), because I've seen that and it doesn't look like that at all. He just looks flushed all the time. So since reading your post, it makes me wonder, since he too is coughing (and sometimes goes into such a fit, I think he's going to vomit) and has red cheeks (though it doesn't itch or burn, like yours does). Again, (((Abbey))). I'm sorry you're miserable. Here's praying for a quick recovery.

I don't know much about Lupus, but with your previous "symptoms", I would get this checked out. My kids came down with some kind of flu this weekend and they've described a similar feeling to yours, esp. that "run over by a truck" part. You could just have a nasty virus, and the fever could be causing the rash. But, it does seem worthy of a check. Would you consider going to an Urgent Care type place just to get a different opinion from your primary care doc? Anyway, lots of sympathy and coddling coming your way. Hope you feel better and get some answers soon. ((((Abbey)))) Doran
JudoMom
We've had ick going through here, and a few of my guys have had red cheeks with an ugly cough with a low fever (although they looked like they were running high fevers). But it was more of their cheeks, and not the butterfly pattern that appears more often with lupus (ds5 spent a summer getting the "lupus rash" in the sun). I hope you feel better quickly. Barb_
Abbey, that's so strange because my 6yo has the same rash that I was attributing to exzema. She has the same icky virus symptoms you do, so it's either coincidence or possibly a symptom of whatever this is. I feel your pain. We have been sick with one thing or another since Christmas. Isn't this a particularly bad year for this sort of thing? Barb
Tammyla
Could you call the office and speak with a nurse or the dr.? We've had our share of rashes around here, and they stink. Lots of sympathy and hugs. The burning part of it coupled with the feeling of being hit with a truck would make me want to call at least. Hope and prayers you are feeling better tomorrow.
