1/2 Friday exercise thread

Let's go people!

:)

I started rehab strengthening exercises today and am now icing my leg. Then I hope to talk DH into going for an exercise walk. I'll do our normal 3 miles but it will be slow. I'm finally down to just a limp and am hoping that in a couple days I'll be able to do some exercise instead of just walking. But I'm very glad to be just walking if that's all it ends up being.

Whatchadoin today?

My legs are bit sore from yesterday's 5 km running in 3 inches of snow which felt like running in sand. I guess I should be thankful that some muscles not usually used in running made their debut during that run (and hopefully will be toned).

I'm not sure what conditions the sidewalks are in today. I hope not too icy. It's cold today with arctic outflow winds.

Didn't go to the gym today because I'm afraid of the roof caving in. No joke.

We've had 60" or so of snow in the last two weeks and fire departments are flying from one structure collapse to the next. I don't want to take my kids to the play area there if the roof hasn't been cleared of snow.

Honestly, just playing it safe, but what a great excuse!

Yay for everyone of us who are shaking off the holiday blahs, colds, injuries, and extra pounds and getting our bodies moving. Extra kudos for anyone who gets out in cold weather. You inspire me to not be wimpy.;)

Glorious weather here today. Lower seventies, light breeze. I walked 45 minutes in addition to a couple of hours of light gardening--pulling a few weeds, hand watering, moving a couple of small shrubs to new homes.

I'm keeping a monthly calendar on my fridge. Each time I work out, the minutes are posted on the day's date. I'll total each week and month. It will be interesting to see how many minutes of sweat and movement I can total by year's end.

Do any of you keep a fitness journal or some method of recording your progress?

That's dedication! It must be hard to come back from an injury. Way to go!

I did a 3 mile Leslie Sansome DVD today. It was the first I've worked out in several months. My anti-depressant is working and I'm ready to get moving again! Yay!

I'm glad you're feeling more motivated! Keep it up!

40 min Wii sports. Lighter today, no boxing. I'm fighting a cold and am just too worn out to punch. I worked up a sweat in a 5 match tennis game. I'm getting better.

Way to go! When I was feeling a little sniffle, I did nothing! (BTW, I really want a Wii.)

30min run and 15min walking

Good job!

3 mi , time 42'35", pace 14:08, cal 362

almost jogged the whole distance just a few walking breaks.

What a great run!

That is better than any excuse I've used. :)

I jot down my daily mileage in my calendar/planner. Tallying the miles makes me feel like I'm making progress. (But on the flip side, it makes me more aware of my lack of progress when, as recently, I'm not able to run!) For the past two years I've set a goal of running 1000 miles so I like to add it up as the year progresses. I also write "B" (Brooks) or "M" (Mizuno) because I like to know how many miles I've put on my shoes, for replacement purposes.

How many miles can you run before you need to replace shoes?

It varies based on factors such as your weight, running gait, and running surface. Generally, it's somewhere in the 300-500 mile range ~ which can mean replacing shoes pretty often. I've found though that it's important to do so. I used to just assume that until my shoe looked old (worn tread, for example) it was as good as ever. Nope. The cushioning doesn't last very long and dead cushion can increase aches, pains, and injuries.

Way to go, guys!

Breann, I don't blame you! That would make me nervous, too.

Same ol' thing here--hour+ walk/run w/my usual friend, plus an extra who's in town on vacation. Chilly, partly cloudy weather. I was really lacking energy today because of my cold, but my head feels best when I'm out moving. All I want to do is lie down, but that makes me feel worse.

See ya tomorrow!

Boy, I have found out the importance of shoe replacement the hard way! My hips were really achy and I knew it was my shoes, but wouldn't make time to go get new ones. Never again.

Also, my local running store salesperson told me that most shoes today are made w/materials that begin to break down in a fairly short amount of time--like a year or so--even if they aren't ever worn.

Thanks. I knew that I would need to replace my shoes fairly often, but at my distances, they should keep a while yet.

I did a 40 minute Turbo Jam video today. I really need to do some strength training because my arms are really feeling heavy with all the punching.

I'm needing new shoes, too. I won't even tell you how many miles are on mine. My arches are aching, though, from the breakdown in support.

I'm feeling intimidated from the level of exercise here but I'm sticking to it!:)

Chiming in last as always.:) Today was a nice day, somewhat sunny (I hung sheets outside to dry ~ yeah!) but not very warm (below 30). Because no one clears sidewalks around here, and because roads aren't cleared very well either, running or even walking is still difficult. So the whole time I was doing my 9 mile run I was somewhat hesitant. The combo of running in the road, in the dark, and avoiding ice was rather nerve-wracking!

Wow colleen! I know how long you've been waiting for a good run - good for you! Though icy+dark=don't even THINK about it for me. :)

I think I'd have sore muscles from the tension!

Way to hang in there!
