mom31257 Posted July 30 Author Posted July 30 I never made it back here yesterday, but I have some good news! Our contractor guy was able to come by and look at the problem I found. He thinks it is minor and did some silicone around the window's edge. He wants to look at it again in 4-6 months. I definitely slept better last night! 5 Quote

HomeAgain Posted July 30 Posted July 30 Yay for simple fixes!! I just watched a squirrel try to enter my attic, so I'll be calling a repair person this week. Today: take ds's skates to be sharpened grocery shop for veggies, milk, and salad yoga violin pay the mortgage head to the thrift shop? Eh, maybe. date night with dh. We're going to see Deadpool. Our original plan was to go to a little historic village and stay overnight. We added up the expenses and laughed at how absurd it was to spend that much on an overnight. So. Deadpool. Dinner. And on Friday, we're going to a museum that dh found he could get a 10% discount on admission (yay) but I went on our library site and got 50% off (YAY!). So dh and I are getting two nice dates for less than 1/4 of what we would have paid for the original plan. 4 1 Quote

TheReader Posted July 30 Posted July 30 Home - the day took a detour. Dentist was great, errands went well, tutoring mom bumped our hour out a bit, then called back to reschedule/push to Thursday; that call came in while I was in line for food, so that worked for me, BUT then I forgot to head to the grocery store (my "after tutoring" stop) until I was about halfway home. None of it was urgent, so will pull.....something.....from the freezer to make for dinner. So now I'm home, going to finish eating, fold some laundry/watch something on TV, then maybe nap and then the quilt. 4 Quote
HomeAgain Posted July 30 Posted July 30 I got ds's skates sharpened. They have a new kid working and I love him so much. He spent twice as long as usual on them after asking what ds is doing and what his preferences are. Made it to the thrift store, too. I don't know who is pricing books, but there are definitely discrepancies! Hewitt's Conceptual Physics was $1.99. All About Spelling level 6 teacher's guide was $24.99. Crazy. I ended up buying nothing because it was crazy busy, but I'm glad I took the time to browse. Mortgage is paid. Violin is done. Dh is hitting the grocery store on his way home. 4 Quote
LifeLovePassion Posted July 30 Posted July 30 Shoulder is sore after PT. I did get the door frames sanded and a little bit of wood filler added so I'll have to wait for that to set up before I can sand and start priming. We have been working on our house for so long.that I'm just not motivated, which is crazy because it is some of the last things we have to do to the inside. Once I get going it will go pretty fast. It's just been a slow start to these doors. I started cutting fabric and piecing for the quilt. I don't really have a concrete plan so it's going to be a little bit at a time. Youngest went to an amusement park with friends and eldest is prepping dinner and doing a few things around the house. 4 Quote
ScoutTN Posted July 30 Posted July 30 Got a lull. Whew! Getting a snack. Got to walk around inside our school building. It used to be an office building. Huge! We will be in temporary classroom space in one wing this fall while permanent changes are made in another section. Office building decor leaves much to be desired: taupe, mauve, and teal. 😱☹️ Blech. But it’s temporary! And there are loads of bookcases. Will buy some cute stuff once I know for sure which is my room. 3 Quote
mom31257 Posted July 31 Author Posted July 31 We had a bad storm come through, and a tree fell on a truck across the street. We have a lot of very tall trees, so I am concerned during storms. We found some flooring we think will work at the back door, and it was just $6 for the whole box. We went to a flooring store and told them our situation (covering just over a square yard), and they offered us a deal. I was sleepy late this afternoon but I fought taking a nap. I've prepped for tutoring in the morning. I'm going to do some tidying and then watch something. 4 Quote
ScoutTN Posted July 31 Posted July 31 (edited) Orientation done. APUS and Algebra 2 teachers seem excellent. English teacher and syllabus are weak. Not positively impressed by his mentor either. Didn’t get to meet the Bio teacher. Ds got his parking pass and that was the most important thing. Doing a bit of math before winding down with a book. T-storms here. ScoutTN Posted July 31 Posted July 31 Just realized that tomorrow is my last day of this era of my life! New job starts for real Thursday. I think it will be good, but the relentlessness and regularity of the schedule and being confined to one place all day, 5 days a week will be a huge change/challenge for me. My adult life has always had lots of flexibility and freedom in it, even when the workload was crazy heavy. I will be on these boards less, home far fewer hours in the day, and will have to figure out how to get all the things like oil changes, medical appointments, and helping my mom all done on Saturdays. Dh wanted to get takeout tonight bc I didn’t make dinner. 🙄 Nope. There is PLENTY of food here and our restaurant budget is small. He is going to have to learn how to cook from ingredients, use what we have, and make food that is not eggs, sandwiches, or salad. 3 Quote
