MEmama Posted July 31 Posted July 31 We were just in the Sierras visiting my brothers mountain cabin and we could easily see the smoke from the Park fire, and the lighting through the Central Valley had that weird smoke-specific coloration. I wanted to remind everyone about air filtration and masking during fire season. My brother's best and lifelong friend has spent his career in the Forest Service; now in his late 50's he is strong and fit from good physical work, and by all accounts healthy. As part of his job he has, of course, worked on and in fire areas, unmasked and unprotected. After experiencing worsening back pain recently, he was diagnosed with a late stage lung cancer that has spread to his brain. As he never smoked and led a healthy lifestyle, this can only be attributed to wildfire smoke exposure. My brother is likely to lose his lifelong friend due to fire smoke. Please, please take it seriously and make sure your loved ones know how to keep themselves safe. I've been begging my family to take better care--largely thanks to the information shared here; I hope it doesn't take N's death for them to listen. 2 Quote

Look into California’s presumptive cancer law for firefighters. There are many research studies on firefighters facing higher cancer risks due to their work. 1 Quote
