sheryl Posted July 23 Posted July 23 Today I fell. I was wearing a new pair of casual shoes. The toe box must be a little big and it doesn't help I'm slightly pigeon-footed. This is only the 5th time or so I've worn them. Walking down our hardwood steps and my foot got caught up on something (?) and I fell 3-4 stairs onto our hardwood floor living room! When falling I thought OH NO! I'm blessed I did NOT break any bones. BUT, boy am I sore. The wall broke my fall. Well, the bum on the floor too! LOL! I fell on to my left side slamming up against the wall so my left arm is sore, my lower back is out of whack and my neck! This is not good for someone who had sciatica so bad 5 years ago I was bed ridden (weeks after we got Shiloh)! In those 5 years I go to the chiropractor once a month for maintenance and do p.t. exercises at home sometimes and haven't had a problem since. I'm hoping today and falling on my bottom will not cause another sciatica issue. I did my exercises this afternoon and was so frustrated by what happened I put those shoes back on. Wearing them now to walk around normally in them. GEE! 🙂 20 Quote
bookbard Posted July 23 Posted July 23 ugh, that sucks. I'm sure you'll be stiff for a few days, but hopefully ok after that. 1 Quote
Kassia Posted July 23 Posted July 23 Ouch - that does hurt! I hope everything is okay and that you feel back to normal soon. That sounds like quite a fall. 😞 1 Quote
wintermom Posted July 23 Posted July 23 Glad there are no broken bones. All the best with your recovery. 1 Quote
OhioMomof3 Posted July 23 Posted July 23 Wishing the best for you as you recover from that! I can only imagine the soreness! 1 Quote
El... Posted July 24 Posted July 24 Ouch! That sounds like something I'd do. I'm sorry. I'm so glad you didn't break any bones. 1 Quote
sheryl Posted July 24 Author Posted July 24 Thanks! I'm hoping (trying to be optimistic) that I won't be "more" sore tomorrow! Well, thanks again! Quote
prairiewindmomma Posted July 24 Posted July 24 Ibuprofen is your friend. I'm prone to sciatica after falls--that nerve is just so dang prone to tweaking. I do find that taking ibuprofen for a couple of days helps, even if I'm not overly bruised or sore. 2 Quote
Melissa in Australia Posted July 24 Posted July 24 Huge hugs Even falling gracefully really knocked your confidence. (I have fallen 3 times this year. ) 1 Quote
TexasProud Posted July 24 Posted July 24 Ouch, so sorry, but grateful you didn't break anything. Hope your sciatica doesn't flair up. Would you mind sharing what exercises you do for that? 1 Quote

I'll take one tonight and that will be it. I'm surprised I don't have a bruise on my left arm. Weird. Grateful though! 13 hours ago, Melissa in Australia said: Huge hugs Even falling gracefully really knocked your confidence. (I have fallen 3 times this year. ) Aw, thanks for that. Hugs taken!! And, yes, I can't tell you how bugged I am by this. I've stumbled before. Once though was on an uneven sidewalk panel. Yep, you guessed it. I was on my walk at night and didn't see it. My foot must have caught that raised panel that didn't meet the preceding one and splat onto the ground I went. I landed on my left knee. 4 hours ago, TexasProud said: Ouch, so sorry, but grateful you didn't break anything. Hope your sciatica doesn't flair up. I have a folder that I've collected over the years and will send some to you with the appropriate name. Look TH or Fri. 1 hour ago, Ottakee said: How are you today? As it turns out I'm very well overall. Better than expected. I'm still sore and my sleeping wasn't great last night as dh can attest to, but overall good. As I told prairiewindmomma, I'm surprised I don't have a bruise on my left arm. My lower back bothered me a little overnight but seems fine today. My neck on sides and back and a bit nearing the front, right side hurts a bit. Overall, I'm very thankful! So glad I didn't hit my head. 2 Quote
Kassia Posted July 24 Posted July 24 Glad you're doing ok! I was a little worried you'd be worse today. 1 Quote
sheryl Posted July 24 Author Posted July 24 TexasProud, Here are a few that I've committed myself to in the most recent years. DH and I found a chiropractor around 2000 (dd was a baby). I'd only go to him when there was an issue which was not often. Fast forward to April 2019, I had a bout of sciatica. Then again in Aug/Sept 2019. We brought Shiloh home at around 10 weeks. I was flat on my back with sciatica with a newborn puppy! That was a difficult year in more ways than 1. Ever since that point, I've decided to go to chiro once a month. I've done that for 4+ years now out of pocket b/c insurance will cover an "issue" which was resolved but will not cover maintenance. I decided I didn't want to be immobile like that again, so we pay out of pocket. 1. Bought a stretch out strap years ago and do some of those exercises. OPTP by DKSA. Green. Do several but not all exercises. Hamstrings inner and outer, quadriceps and hip flexors on floor, not table (love this!), inner thigh and hamstring, outer thigh, triceps and there are more I'd like to do from the book. 2. From Chiro - child's pose (chiro calls it that), dog position (bend to bring elbow in as you bring opposing knee in), back on floor and knees bent - place both hands behind knee and pull up towards chest. hold on to knee as much as you can while lowering. this is too simple but it really helps to stretch me. 3. From P.T. - clamshell, spinal side twist, squats holding on to kitchen counter. There are many more but they are not associated with a name that I can find. Quote
prairiewindmomma Posted July 24 Posted July 24 I’m guessing PT had you doing “dead bug” also if you are doing clamshell and squats. 1 Quote

I rotate usually but try to get in around 10 or so each time. Quote
