We first brought him to ER on Friday. They did blood work and a ct scan and said he has an infection in his intestines. They sent him home with 2 antibiotics and said if he wasn’t better in a few days to bring him back. By Sunday around noon he wasn’t better so now they have admitted him. His sodium is also dangerously low. He is getting iv antibiotics and sodium…. And he has been constipated. They finally gave him enough stuff to have good bm but when he stood up afterwards he almost passed out and started vomiting.

He never throws up….

They said he doesn’t have a blockage but I don’t understand why he would throw up up after he had good bm.

His heart rate is now elevated to 100 and BP is low. 90/55. I talked to the nurse and she said it is ok for now and she is watching it. Thus us all very unnerving. He is almost 86.

We've been through hospitalizations with MIL in the last year for both low sodium and an intestinal blockage. Not fun, but they are things that can be dealt with. I'll be keeping your dad and all of you in my thoughts.

ETA: Low sodium can cause nausea. That alone could explain the throwing up.

BM after feeling constipated would make me feel like puking and dizzy. The puking effect was from coughing due to bm exertion while the dizziness was due to feeling breathless.

So sorry to hear.   It is hard when they become elderly and have medical issues.   So much time in and out of the hospital and doctor's office.

They did blood work again about 1: am.  White count is higher than Friday when we first took him to ER.  It is now 18.7 after being 2 oral antibiotics from Friday to Sunday and IV antibiotics since Sunday.  Sodium also low but that isn’t surprising which everything else out of whack. And he isn’t eating.

This all sounds so much like my MIL's hospitalization a few months ago. She tested positive for Covid (pretty much an incidental finding), had a touch of pneumonia, and a lot of her blood work was all out of whack, the most worrisome being a life-threateningly low sodium level. She wasn't eating, was nauseous, couldn't control her bladder. She was on oral and IV antibiotics, and all sorts of support to get the sodium level up. For the first few days she was so sick none of us believed she'd be coming home. We thought she was either going to die or (more likely) would need to go into a skilled nursing facility. But after six days in the hospital she was improved enough to go to a rehab facility. She spent about two weeks there and has been home since. Now I won't sugarcoat things--she hasn't bounced back to where she was before all of that happened. But for her age her quality of life is still pretty good.

Thank you for telling me all of that.  It is a weird comfort to know it is not unusual.  My mom tested positive for Covid on July 5.  He kept testing negative but had some medium symptoms. Neither of them were terribly sick with it.

Mom doctor has been in already and said they are going to try a different antibiotic.
