There’s some kind of Microsoft outage going on that is affecting banks, supermarkets, flights, fuel, news outlets and emergency services here and possibly also globally. Hopefully it’s no big deal and gets patched soon, but just thought I’d share in case anyone wants to take cash or allow a bit of extra time in their day in case of disruptions. It probably got noticed here a bit earlier due to being middle of the day.

Also possible 911 phone outages in some US states Alaska
- Arizona
- Indiana
- Minnesota
- New Hampshire
- Ohio.

Add Jetstar to the airlines offline here and people are unable to check out at some supermarkets without cash.  Some internal hospital systems impacted but supposed to not affect patient care. It seems to be related to a security software called Crowdstrike and for some people rolling back to the last update is fixing the problems

There are IT problems preventing a UK station from broadcasting and impacting at least one train route in the UK.  Air traffic is disrupted in Europe.

UK pharmacy organisations are saying that they may not be able to receive new prescriptions from doctors.

Some pharmacies are down here - they are doing pickups for existing meds but no new prescriptions

Thanks for posting this. I don’t typically turn on the news first thing, but I do usually check email & the boards. This may have some pretty big impacts to our day.

I just got up a few minutes ago, and my teen niece is supposed to be getting on Delta shortly to visit me! Fortunately, her flight is listed as on time!

Quoting myself.
Flight is scheduled on time, but security is apparently a madhouse. They called for unaccompanied minors and she and my sister were taken right to the front! Extra money well spent.

Dd23 said their office computers are working properly, but dh said theirs are all wonky. Crossed fingers they just cut him loose and he can have a long weekend

It’s an interesting day to see who is running off computers from a fruity company and who is running Windows. Crowdstrike actually has awesome security abilties—this just goes to the vulnerabilities of a tightly integrated system.

I spoke too soon. Once we left for the airport, flight got repeatedly delayed. Currently about 3 hours behind. So glad I picked the tiny “local” airport. Dd and I did a Costco run, lol.

My husband works for a hospital as IT, and he’s trying to work on it.  Are we sure this wasn’t an attack?  Friend in social security says most of the federal government is down.

This feels like one of those documentaries where someone talks about the problems with monoculture in farming. Turns out having the entire government and infrastructure using the same system might not be ideal.

The college where I work has some issues, but they didn’t affect Records and Registration, so my workday was unaffected. The VA systems seemed to be fine. Admissions and Advising took a hit.  Registration opened for Con-Ed yesterday so we didn’t need more craziness.

Our son is in India again for his company, and was supposed to leave tonight. Thank goodness the customer asked to have him stay five more days because he is getting so many things straightened out for them. Otherwise, I think he would be stranded in an airport since his route is Pune, to Delhi, to Amsterdam, to Detroit all on KLM.

I agree whole heartedly with the monoculture analogy.

My dh works for a local government. He said that anyone in the gov't building who turned off their computer overnight was fine. He, and anyone else who kept their computer on overnight needed IT to come and delete some part of the update.

Everything went fine for dn’s delayed flight, but we REALLY lucked out. Every Delta flight to our airport was cancelled after hers, and no Delta flights were departing. At ticketing, people were being rerouted to other airports on other carriers for tomorrow night or later.

I received an email saying that unaccompanied minor services wouldn’t be available until Sunday the 21st “which affects your flight”. But she was already here and isn’t leaving until the 30th, so…

The line for American Airlines was WAY worse.

Emails to one of my kid’s Important Things were not going through.

DH’s work was mayhem, but they brought a normally off-site radiologist on site to help with the mayhem. The parts of things that didn’t work were things that make the day go smoother (dictation) more than things related directly to patient care.

I put off some stuff I was afraid I would have to do over (or worse, not know didn’t work out!) if I tried it today.
