Momof4sweetkids Posted July 14 Posted July 14 My sister's in-laws and I are planning a baby shower for my sister. She asked for dino theme but the in-laws are going for a classy eucalyptus decor. I'm in charge of food. I want to do dino for my sis but make it classy so it doesn't clash with all the decor. Any ideas? Quote
kbutton Posted July 14 Posted July 14 Google tells me that you can get Dino candy molds for not much $$$. Cream cheese mints are so good, and you can make them in soft colors with natural food dye. You can also make different flavors than mint—lemon or vanilla. And there is always chocolate or gummies you can make (I’ve not tried gummies myself). I suppose classy rules out Dino nuggets. I would do a veggie and/or fruit tray regardless of color scheme, but you can probably even stick to neutral fruits and veggies if you had to. Could you use a cookie cutter to cut out watermelon shapes, or would that be too wasteful of melon/too fragile? I remember people making fruit salads inside a watermelon shaped like a basket—maybe you could make a melon of some kind look like a hatched dinosaur egg. Honeydew might fit the color scheme. 3 1 Quote

I've never heard of cream cheese mints but they sound good, I'll have to try out a batch. A watermelon as a hatched dinosaur would be so cool if I can figure it out! Much more creative than my cake topper idea, thanks! I'm also hoping I can learn to make pretty royal icing cookies 1 Quote
HomeAgain Posted July 15 Posted July 15 If you do mini sandwiches you can use this: Dino Sandwich Cutter. It actually brought back memories because I still have one in my kitchen drawer from when my oldest was small. He loved his sandwiches cut into shapes. But I was thinking it might be a cute gift for the mom-to-be after the shower for her own kid's lunches. 3 Quote
mmasc Posted July 15 Posted July 15 Cucumber sandwiches would be good—the right colors and perfect finger food! Even better if you use a Dino cut out like the one linked above^^ 1 Quote

popmom Posted July 16 Posted July 16 Absolutely do dino nuggets! Don’t overthink it. Dino nuggets will definitely bring a fun factor to the event. If you know someone who does good cookies, you could get really fancy decorative dino shaped cookies. I think the key to keeping the atmosphere a bit elevated is the decor, the venue, the invitations, the floral arrangements, etc. Orherwise, have some fun with it. 💕💕 2 Quote
katilac Posted July 17 Posted July 17 idk about food, but I would absolutely be hiding some lil dinosaurs in the eucalyptus plants, like hidden Mickeys 1 2 Quote
Rosie_0801 Posted July 17 Posted July 17 Eucalyptus as poshness is doing my head in. I mean, I clean my loo with eucalyptus oil. My grandpa used to feed us eucalyptus lollies, so I can hold two separate thoughts in my head. But eucalyptus as poshness is still doing my head in. 😂 I vote for dino nuggets with dipping sauce so they can be dunked in larva, but I would, wouldn't I, not being up to in-law, poshness standards. Starr Posted July 18 Posted July 18 Look online and there are pictures of them looking more dinosaury. Fun way to serve fruit salad. Everyone enjoys fun. Quote
