Just wondering if anyone has gotten theirs set up yet.

In the other thread, I said I didn’t think I would get one because I have set a lot of this up in a binder and I have file boxes in good order for my dh’s business. But when I read about the information included with nokbox, I kinda want it.

I had not thought about necessarily the keeping of the household running if I/we died unexpectedly. It truly would not be super easy for my adult kids to pick up the thread of how I pay various things and what the accounts are and what need to be done every month/year/whatever. So I think I might want it for that purpose.

And because I had never thought about the keys - keys my dh has and I would not even know what they go to.

I am planning on ordering the lite kit this weekend.  They have a 2 pack special so will get one for me and one for my brother.

I'm not sure if I am getting the NOKBox kit, but I've been dealing with all my dad's financial, medical, and really everything stuff for 5+ years. He has recently passed and thank goodness I already knew where his POA, AMD, will, trust, money, account numbers, online passwords, beneficiaries, etc. were. Otherwise it would be a huge mess right now. DH and I had just gotten his parent's to turn all their financial info over to me to get in order, write their checks for the to sign, etc. a few months before they both passed. Thank goodness we had a good understanding of all their stuff too - not all of it, but a good amount.

At my house, I am the keeper of the finances and the information. My husband knows where our accounts are and knows where password info is, but I handle it all. After I get my dad's estate settled, I'm going to be getting our information in better order in case something happens to me. Or...if both of us die, for our sons to know where things are, what we have, and how to deal with everything as they will be our Executors.

I need to look more into the NOKBox. I keep seeing adds.

I am so sorry for your loss. I must have missed it that he passed. You loved him so well these past few years.

Totally agreeing with this, & I appreciated the previous thread.

I've been doing my in-laws finances for 7 years, and there was initially a total surprise each week.  Now we only have 2-3 surprises a year . . . but I really didn't want to do that to our kids.

I think it's a daunting task to have "everything" organized (or the whole house decluttered) . . . but just a quick 1 page summary is a great place to start!  I think the NokBox is a great tool to complete Everything.

We re-did our Wills, POA, Living Wills when the kids were launched.  Then we assigned a large Estate Task to each child.  I've been training each individual kid (very briefly) about what's involved, & they each seem to be cheerful about it.  (Executor, Healthcare POA, Durable POA,)  I now have a firebox safe for our papers, and one for my in-laws papers.  It's a place for them to start!

Just an FYI, there is a sale for $21 off any one item (except the 2 lite kit deal) with the code PRIME21 today.  I got my $58 lite kit for $49 after taxes and shipping and handling.

Do you have a link?  Is this on Amazon?  I looked but couldn't find it.  I doubt DH will agree, but maybe with a discount I could persuade him.

Can I just say how valuable I am finding this. I am doing a little bit at a time.  I THOUGHT we were pretty organized, but I am realizing how much of what we had in place may be confusing to an outside person. And I am also realizing how scattered it all is.

Realized today that none of our bank accounts have beneficiaries on them.  Now, I know we did it when we opened all of these various accounts. But all of them have changed hands to various banks, so I guess the paperwork didn't go with it.  Regardless, NONE of them have beneficiaries.  So we will try to do that ASAP.

What will also be nice about this is that we can just pick it up and take it with us should we have a natural disaster or something.

My goal is to have it done by January 1, 2025.  I am doing a little every day, so it might be done before that. But there is A LOT of stuff.  The keys alone are mind blowing.

Jan 1 is an awesome goal.

I have my folder ready but need to start filling them out, filing papers, etc.   also need to talk to my lawyer to make sure I have everything deeded/beneficiaries, etc correct for the special needs trust
