LifeLovePassion Posted July 9 Posted July 9 Slow start, I did not sleep well last night. I need to put away camping stuff that I was cleaning out yesterday and move a couple of bins. Then I think I will work in my studio space or a bathroom. This is the summer of the purge...I've been watching minimalist videos on YouTube. I need to do a couple of things for work, but I will get paid if I go in. (Teacher on summer break) 7 Quote

HomeAgain Posted July 9 Posted July 9 Well. Let's see how the rest of the day goes. DS was up and on the ball this morning, making sure he had his stuff done well before the time to leave to go to the pro shop. Which is really good, because he ended up forgetting his sticks in my car. He and dh both texted that they were leaving early to come get them while I was in my appointment. Preparation left room for mistakes to happen without stress. My appointment ended up being cancelled, lol, and I spent my time waiting to first get up to the window and then trying to find another open date. By the time I saw dh/ds's texts they were nearly to me anyway so I just waited in the parking lot for them. So, I'm home doing the laundry. Violin is done. Dh and ds are hopefully getting the skates fixed. I need to add going to the store to my list. We are missing two lunch boxes and several forks. I have a very good clue as to where they are and honestly, after so many weeks I don't want them back. I'd rather just get ds a new one and not let the two young adults touch it. 6 Quote

SKL Posted July 9 Posted July 9 Howdie, happy Tuesday! The maid is here ... it's been over a month since her last visit, so yay ... although it's disruptive on a work day. So, I "cleaned" for the maid. The girls' rooms' floors can be vacuumed. Still remaining to clean is my own bedroom, which isn't that bad, but I still have to decide what to do with the graduation memorabilia. I might do a couple loads of laundry, though I should make the kids do them. Called the high school to ask a few questions. I can donate my kids' graduation gowns back to the school, so at least two girls won't have to pay for these single-use items next year. 😛 Few other minor things to clear up, hopefully by tomorrow. Looking forward to permanently filing all of the high school stuff. 😛 I have lots of client work. Work focus is not my superpower, unfortunately. Kid1 is on her way to her first day working at one of our businesses. The idea is that she will be a trainee in various areas. She has mixed feelings. I hope she will display a good attitude. Her Dunkin' job is giving her very few hours, which isn't a big deal to me, but she really needs something meaningful to do this month. I know this is whiney, but my tooth is still hurting, especially when I eat. So I have been eating less and only soft things. Hopefully this contributes to my diet plan. I hope to take the pup for a long walk today. I need to get back in shape so that I can make a decent effort at TKD, starting for real this week. Would really love to keep cleaning all day long. Maybe I missed my calling. Oh well, back to trying to focus. 6 Quote
SKL Posted July 9 Posted July 9 I decided what to do with all the graduation stuff. I have my old law school cap & gown in a box in my closet, so I decided to add to it all my diplomas & professional license certificates & the kids' diplomas / cords / self-decorated caps. So now my room is ready to be cleaned. I went ahead and washed the girls' remaining laundry. They have been doing most of it for the past month, but they never seem to get caught up, so I don't mind doing some ... especially on a day when they may be doing more paid work than I am. 😛 House cleaning always reminds me of so many minor projects I keep wanting to do. Someday! Got a little client work done. Lots more to do. Should move it downstairs so the maid can get into my room .... 4 Quote

mom31257 Posted July 9 Posted July 9 It was a fun lunch out. I paid the water bill and picked up salsa from a favorite restaurant. I got all the grocery items for tonight. Dh always does the deep cleaning in our shower, and he did it while I was gone. I always clean the glass, so I took care of it after I got back. He always uses so much soap that it builds up like crazy. 5 Quote

HomeAgain Posted July 9 Posted July 9 I was nearly late picking him up because traffic, but DS came home all smiles today! One of the younger guys at the pro shop had a good conversation with him and ds gave him the run down of what, exactly, the blades should have - what groove, what he needed them for...so a much better day for him at camp overall (and I don't have to run to the next county!) I did yoga, made it to the store, and didn't find what I needed. Amazon order placed. In the meantime, ds is making do with dh's lunch box. 4 Quote
Faith-manor Posted July 9 Posted July 9 I tackled it. Think I am the quarterback, and I got sacked by the mothers. So, my original day was supposed to include the following, 3 loads of laundry, taking a load to the Goodwill, baking sandwich bread as well as banana bread, searching through the jungle that is the four cucumber plants that now look like one mammoth Rumor Weed to see if there are anymore ripe cukes in the depths, clean the bunny cage, finish a quilt. After the 5 yard sacking, I ended up taking them both to the pharmacy, to the meat market, to the supermarket, to the cemetery to drop off flowers, and to the farmer's market. Then when the kicker was going to at least try for a 3 PT punt, they informed me their yards were jungles and with the rain we are getting tonight, they must be mowed immediately. 😠😠😠 I asked them about this on Sunday. They told me all was fine. So my defensive plays were to mow their lawns, then mow mine, the collapse because Michiganders cannot handle humidity, then get up and do one load of laundry, followed by make banana bread which is now in the oven. The plans of mice and men..... 2 1 Quote
ScoutTN Posted July 9 Posted July 9 Home from work. About to eat and then tackle new-job computer tasks. Gotta get used to coming home from work and working more. This school year is gonna be rough. 1 1 Quote
LifeLovePassion Posted July 10 Posted July 10 Cleaned up a vintage sewing machine from DHs grandma. Ordered some oil so I can lubricate it and see how she sees tomorrow. Put camping stuff away. Began clean out of bathroom drawers. Brought office stuff upstairs so that I can integrate it with the rest of our office supplies and/or get rid of excess. Messaged boss man and scheduled a meeting for tomorrow. DH and I just spent an hour and a half out in the workshop modifying a door for the bottom of the stairs. Doors and installing trim are out last tasks for the basement. Hopefully we can wrap them all up this summer and we can have a whole year of free weekends! 3 Quote
ScoutTN Posted July 10 Posted July 10 Got my benefits enrollment done. Still puzzling over the grad school options. Hard to compare apples to apples without really knowing what I am getting into. I can compare the costs and the drive time and the scheduling, but not the workload or value of the instruction. Plus the teacher licensure path in TN, as a career changer without an Ed degree, is very opaque and confusing. Even our school HR people and the university programs find it hard to navigate. If they need teachers, why make this so hard?! Government…. Going to take time early in the day tomorrow, to write down everything I know, formulate questions, and just think. I did discuss it with Dh and it was good to hear his thoughts. He is very supportive and says he’s ready to jump in to help lots with meals and other household stuff over the next two years or so while I am both teaching school and going to school. Ha! He doesn’t really cook… But maybe he will learn?! 3 Quote

ScoutTN Posted July 10 Posted July 10 Just now, LifeLovePassion said: What areas are you pursuing for the MA? I'm considering getting one for the pay bump. I have taken a job teaching 2nd grade at a new, classical, public charter school for the coming year. I have to complete an “educator preparation program” as part of licensure requirements. One university has an 18 credit fast-track, just a certificate. I could do the extra 12 hrs and finish the Master’s at any time, though. The other nearby uni has a 39 hour M.Ed. Both programs are geared at K-5 teachers. Both schools have other specializations at the Master’s level. Yes, pay raise for the graduate degree. 1 Quote
ScoutTN Posted July 10 Posted July 10 Found the missing football practice shirt! Victory (albeit temporary) over the boy-chaos! 🤣 Started a load of athletic clothes for Ds, since he went almost straight from practice to work today. Made a list for tomorrow. Going to read and maybe listen to a podcast. 3 Quote
SKL Posted July 10 Posted July 10 Well, Kid1's first day at the business was a success. I wasn't sure what sort of report I was going to get when it was over, but it was nice and positive. 🙂 I did about half of the yoga I wanted to do, and half of the dog walking I wanted to do, but it's better than nothing. As for client work, I still have a lot, and I'm telling myself (as usual) that I'll get on it early tomorrow morning.... 2 Quote
TheReader Posted July 10 Posted July 10 11 hours ago, mommyoffive said: @TheReader I hope you got home safe and sound. Thanks! We made it home yesterday (Tue) afternoon. Oldest texted when we landed (or the text came through then) - camp sent them all home, as they had no power or water there; he's home till the end of the week. Yay for that! He had some scary stories from their experience (trees falling, etc.). but no damages at camp, other than just being on the low priority list for getting their power back. We have power, our A/C finally caught up to cooling the house down, our internet was out but came back last night around 9 pm; our fence damage is a little worse than we thought, but nothing major; a few posts and some labor and DH will be able to fix it well enough. A couple of tree limbs down, a shingle or two missing from the roof, but low enough that DH thinks he can reach it himself and we have spare shingles from doing the patio cover, so that will be this weekend's plans. Overall we are very fortunate. My grandma still doesn't have power, but she says it's "only 80" in her house, so she's fine (she does keep it set to about 78-79 so this is not too bad for her); she opens the back doors for the breeze in the daytime and then closes back up. She says she's well stocked on non-perishables, her church friends helped her get the water out of the house, and she's fine staying where she is. I've encouraged her to let me know if that changes, we'll bring her here. My cousin is supposed to go visit tomorrow, but we'll see what happens (cousin & her family may not want to go visit if there's no power). My sister still has no power, but some of her kids do, so she's staying with them till hers is back. I'll check w/her once she's back home and see if she needs help re-buying any groceries she lost. (will do the same for grandma, actually). I've told her let me know if the kids get sick of her or it gets crowded at their places, she could come here. 2 Quote
