Indigo Blue Posted June 15 Posted June 15 Ds is so excited about his figs. His first ones are ripening! I don’t know if I will eat anymore since I saw a video of someone opening a fig and there hundreds of tiny living wasps inside. Figs are so expensive. He literally has a money tree! lol. 1 Quote
Indigo Blue Posted June 15 Author Posted June 15 What are these in his yard? I thought mimosa at first, but that’s not it. Quote
KungFuPanda Posted June 15 Posted June 15 The fig looks like a Chicago hardy and the tree could be tree of heaven (horribly invasive and spotted lantern flies live it) but don’t take my word on the tree. 2 1 Quote
Innisfree Posted June 15 Posted June 15 I was thinking that looked like a tree of heaven/heavenwood/ailanthus also. Look it up; if that’s what it is, he’ll probably want to get rid of it before it takes over the world. Figs are fantastic. 😋 1 Quote

Katy Posted June 15 Posted June 15 It could also be some form of sumac, but I’m not great at identifying them. We also had a black locust tree at one house that had similar leaves. I didn’t like it, it was blocking some of our view of our creek down the hill. but then I realized it was probably holding the hill together and left it alone. 1 Quote
wintermom Posted June 15 Posted June 15 (edited) It looks like sumac to me. Does it have red cone-shaped 'flowers' develop later in the summer and fall? Edited June 17 by wintermom 1 Quote
marbel Posted June 15 Posted June 15 (edited) Suggest your son get a plant ID app for his phone. We use the free version of "Picture This" but there are others. It's not necessarily 100% accurate but it's been very helpful. And fun! Edited June 15 by marbel 1 Quote
Indigo Blue Posted June 15 Author Posted June 15 It really does look like the tree of heaven that Kung Fu Panda posted about. 🐼🥋 Okay. Just got sidetracked because I see that there is actually a cute panda emoji and a Kung fu gi emoji. 🤔🙂 1 Quote

Apple phones can plant id without the app. Take a photo of the plant, and a little leaf button with stars will show up on the bottom icons below the photo. Click it and it will identify it for you. 2 1 Quote
