MercyA Posted June 7 Posted June 7 I'm looking for two audio books to relax with this summer. I especially like: short stories, humor, biographies, books about animals (only happy ones at the moment), true crime, ghosts I don't really care for: romances, historical novels, sci-fi, fantasy Any suggestions? Thanks so much! Quote
Kassia Posted June 7 Posted June 7 (edited) Have you read this? https://www.amazon.com/Funny-Farm-Unexpected-Rescue-Animals/dp/1250272831 ETA - also a memoir that was surprisingly funny even though it was about her cancer: When Life Gives You Pears: The Healing Power of Family, Faith, and Funny People I also really liked Jerry Seinfeld's Is This Anything? but it's very dated. Kassia Posted June 7 Posted June 7 (edited) I love memoirs. Some good ones I've read in the past year or two: Hello Molly Henry Winkler's book - Being Henry I'm Glad My Mom Died North to Paradise Crying in H Mart Dave Grohl's book Beautiful Country a lot of Holocaust memoirs too - very inspiring, but obviously hard reads due to the content. For humor/short stories: James Thurber: 92 Stories ETA another memoir: The Opposite of Butterfly Hunting: The Tragedy and The Glory of Growing Up (written by the actress who played Luna on Harry Potter) also, this one was very interesting Who Says You're Dead? Medical & Ethical Dilemmas for the Curious & Concerned Edited June 7 by Kassia 1 Quote
MercyA Posted June 7 Author Posted June 7 (edited) @Kassia, these suggestions are perfect! Thank you! I hadn't heard of the Funny Farm book, even though I have lots of books about sanctuaries and rescue. Looks good! Edited June 7 by MercyA Quote

Some of the memoirs might be a bit dark for what you're looking for but the Funny Farm book was really good and different from what I expected. Hope you get some great books with your credits. 🙂 1 Quote
domestic_engineer Posted June 8 Posted June 8 Daniel Nayeri's newest 2 books: Everything Sad is Untrue and The Many Assassinations of Samir, the Seller of Dreams. The first is semi-autobiographical of his childhood; the second is told like 1001 Nights with a lot of short stories woven together. The author reads his own books. I'll second Kassia's rec of Henry Winkler's autobiography that he read. How to Stay Married: The Most Insane Love Story Ever Told by Harrison Scott Key. A memoir by a humorist. He also reads his own book, along with his wife. 1 1 Quote
Kassia Posted June 10 Posted June 10 I just started reading this and thought of you, @MercyA Birdie & Harlow: Life, Loss, and Loving My Dog So Much I Didn't Want Kids by Taylor Wolfe 1 Quote
J-rap Posted June 10 Posted June 10 West with Giraffes (I haven't read it yet but it's on my list... based on a true story) West with the Night (Memoir about a British woman who grew up in Kenya in the early 1900's and eventually became a bush pilot) Funny they both begin with West! 🙂 1 Quote
