mlktwins Posted May 20 Posted May 20 Looking at top load washers only. Currently have a Whirlpool Cabrio (2nd one) and not getting another one of those. Maytag owned by the same people so no to those also. Not wanting a Samsung so looking at LG. Next step is Speed Queen, but not wanting to spend that much at the moment. Quote
Terabith Posted May 20 Posted May 20 Don't have personal experience yet, but my husband decided he could not fix the dryer (it wasn't the heating element), and we didn't want to pay as much as Speed Queens cost, so we just ordered a LG dryer. Hope it's lovely. Quote
Katy Posted May 20 Posted May 20 We have a top load LG. It’s the largest capacity one. It’s nice that it handles 3 standard loads at once. I really liked it at first, but I’m no longer sure how well it cleans actually dirty things. I was using the bedding cycle on some stomach flu bedding and it wasn’t getting clean. The third cycle I used the heavy duty cycle with tide rescue spray instead of bedding and it finally worked. Bedding frequently gets unbalanced and half the time if you reset it at the end of the spin cycle it starts it over. There’s no apparent way to override. The dryer defaults to energy saving settings and everything comes out WET unless you specifically choose anti-bacterial cycle every time. Which takes about 2 hours but works ok. The phone app has irritating “helpful hints” you can’t turn off. I understand explaining how to wash the lint filter the first 30 times. But after they it’s just obnoxious. Honestly right after I got the set I loved it. At this point I wish I would have opted for the old-fashioned Speed Queen, which they did re-release but it was backordered when we moved. 1 Quote
Catwoman Posted May 20 Posted May 20 I have a top of the line top load LG washer and dryer set, which I bought for the incredibly idiotic reason that it was the prettiest and the fanciest looking (and also because it was the highest capacity, which was at least one sensible reason, but there were cheaper models that were similarly sized.) I still like the dryer, but I hate that washer. I'm thinking that @Katy and I might have the same one, because mine is always uneven, too. It's a serious nuisance, because it happens multiple times during the wash cycle. It also doesn't rinse well, so I end up running two extra rinses with every wash cycle... and then repeat the ENTIRE process 2 more times. Doing laundry takes a ridiculous amount of time. HOURS per load! I keep saying I'm going to sell this house soon, so I haven't replaced the stupid things (because they still look perfect,) but if we don't decide to actually put it on the market soon, I'm going to start shopping around for replacements. I have had other brands in our other houses, and they are fine, although I hesitate to make recommendations because I'm not at those houses as often, so I don't know about long term durability. But these LGs... nope. Do not recommend!!! Quote
Pawz4me Posted May 20 Posted May 20 My previous dryer was an LG. It was trouble free for ten years and I really liked it. I don't know if ten years is considered a good life for a dryer or not. It could have been repaired--what was wrong with it was the moisture sensor and the entire housing that held the lint filter both needed replacing. I'm sure that would have been an easy DIY for a lot of people, but both of us have joint issues that make it very hard for us to contort ourselves to replace parts like that or deal with small screws. And we figured by the time we paid for the parts and for someone to do it -- it wouldn't be worth it for a ten year old dryer. Quote
