TheReader Posted May 17 Author Posted May 17 Good morning, all! My part of Houston was unscathed, more or less; still reading up on all the damage around town. As far as I can tell, everyone near & dear to me is safe & unaffected. Oldest lost power at camp but it came back before bed; today if the weather holds for them, they have lifeguard training. So, my list today: ...coffee ...work on sewing stuff ...maybe some tidying, but it's mostly DH's mess, so....? ...take DS to buy flowers for his GF ...(probably) drive them for their "not-Prom" date this evening ...come home, veg out I'm sure there will be other stuff in there, but not sure what....DH is out all day, and then ended up telling a fencing friend that yes, sure, he'd go down to a different fencing club w/him tonight, which means I'm on my own for the driving/date night tonight. Fun times. Well, unless I convince Middle to come with me. We'll see.... Have a great day, everyone! 6 Quote
HomeAgain Posted May 17 Posted May 17 Good morning! I'm glad the storms didn't affect you much, @TheReader. The aftermath looks scary. On the list today: coffee take the trash to the dump grocery shopping fold the laundry deep clean my car move a trampoline? Short story time! Last night we were sitting down to dinner when dh said, "whoa! Look at that cat on our patio!" And I glanced out the back door to see the most beautiful, large, leopard print bengal cat staring at me from my steps. And then it struck me that I had seen this cat before! There have been lost cat pictures circulating around town and this one was just striking enough to remember. So I threw him a piece of turkey, pulled up the photo and texted his owners before opening a can of tuna to help keep him around. The sweet kitty wasn't interested in getting anywhere near people and took off into my woods. It took the owners two hours to find him, but he's back safe and sound now! So what does that have to do with the trampoline? The owners turned out to be the people who moved into ds's friend's old house. The friend left the trampoline. All the kids in the neighborhood have been eying it, the cat owner doesn't want it, and he offered it up to ds once we had all made our introductions (after kitty was found). Now to figure out how to move this thing 2 football fields down the road. 6 Quote
ScoutTN Posted May 17 Posted May 17 (edited) Good morning. Raining here, blah! Ds slept for 15 hours straight! He ate some b’fast and is at school. I am headed to PT. mom31257 Posted May 17 Posted May 17 @TheReader, so glad you are okay!! @HomeAgain, that's a neat story! I'm glad you found their cat and how cool to get a trampoline out of it. I slept in this morning. I posted last night that my student contacted me about sending him his high school diploma/transcript and asking me to keep it between us. In Georgia, his dad has to issue the diploma and sign the transcript. I am praying about how to respond. I would love to keep communication open with him, but I have to let his dad know he contacted me. I don't have any real plans today. I need to make a list of things to get done this summer. I don't want it to get away from me and I regret not doing more. 6 Quote

SKL Posted May 17 Posted May 17 Struggling to prioritize the many things I have to do today. Meaning, it's not getting done. But it will. 5 Quote
HomeAgain Posted May 17 Posted May 17 Dump run and grocery shopping done. I nearly bought a bad chayote and only caught the decay when I set it on the belt. So, no chayote salad tonight. Dh and I cleaned out the cup cabinet. It was long overdue, and I have several glasses and mugs that will be going to the thrift store. We boxed a few up that we want to save (like one ds made several years ago) and I now have half an entire cabinet empty. I did not do the laundry. A lot of reasons, but mostly that I am an introvert and when ds's gf gets loud and drops all the things and just makes a lot of noise in general I do not like being around that. I'll do laundry tomorrow when they're gone. 4 Quote
SKL Posted May 17 Posted May 17 Also it's my mom's 80th birthday. I had better not forget to call. 3 Quote
history-fan Posted May 17 Posted May 17 While driving around doing errands saw a dog running in street not too busy of a road. Dog came over when I pulled to a stop, I had a leash and treats but it ran off. It did have a collar and tag, kept following it for about a mile and saw it run down a driveway- so it made it home. laundry going amazon returns done dishes done clean LR carpet 3 Quote

ScoutTN Posted May 17 Posted May 17 (edited) Gonna check in with a neighbor, then rest a bit. My ribs are sore from coughing. Still have this darn chest congestion. Edited May 17 by ScoutTN 2 Quote
TheReader Posted May 17 Author Posted May 17 still mildly headachey. :sigh: This would not be terrible, except that DH is going off fencing with a friend, to a different fencing club, instead of being my partner for this date-night driving (that he offered to do), so I am driving DS and GF around. *they both do have licenses; DS doesn't feel comfortable driving, so usually GF drives, but tonight is supposed to have more rain again this evening, possibly heavy, so her parents wanted them to postpone if it was raining - we said we could drive instead, so they don't have to postpone. Then the fencing thing came up. anyway, taking some more headache stuff and then heading out shortly - need to pack my "hanging out doing nothing' bag for waiting on them 2 Quote
mom31257 Posted May 17 Posted May 17 @SKL, happy birthday to your mom! @TheReader, I hope you feel better and enjoy being out with them. I watched an episode of Vikings. I ironed a dress shirt and pants for ds. He is going to a wedding this weekend. I took a nap. Dh has graduation tonight, and he wants me to drop him off and pick him up from it because parking is crazy. He didn't want to eat dinner before going, so I'll make it after I get back and he'll eat when he gets home. 3 Quote
SKL Posted May 17 Posted May 17 Called mom for her birthday. I almost forgot so many times today. I already gave her her card / gift last Sunday. Some of my siblings are there today, so she's got plenty of company. 3 Quote
ScoutTN Posted May 18 Posted May 18 Dinner out was meh. Food and vibe both left something to be desired. Happy to be home, in my jammies, relaxing. Enjoying my book. 2 Quote
TheReader Posted May 18 Author Posted May 18 So, I'm so glad we each did what we did this evening, me and DH. Our fencing friend, who is the reason DH went off on his own, thanked him afterwards for coming -- said he had really wanted to go over there, but not on his own, and it meant a lot to him that DH went. So, that was good. The kids did run into rain, so was good I was driving them. And I got lots of planning done for my 3rd grade student next year, and got to hear all of DS's "prom night" stories afterwards in the car on the way home. His GF thanked me for driving them, and everything we do for them, too, which was nice as well. Now winding down/going to bed. 1 Quote
