Indigo Blue Posted May 9 Posted May 9 I tried this balm once. It was fantastic. I paid 16.00 for the travel sized tube. I remember the 9 ounce jar being around 30.00. I think. It was about 2 years ago. I thought I would order some more. The same 2 ounce tube is 30.00! And the 9 ounce jar is 80.00! I could imagine this being great for people with ultra sensitive and dry skin. The jar would last forever and a little goes a long way. I could see spending that out of necessity and it lasting at least a year. But I don’t need to. I just REALLY liked it, and I will likely never order it again because of the cost. ☹️ The same thing happened with some Cetaphil body wash. Oh, it was so great. The price crept creeping up. Now it’s insanely expensive. It’s one of the ones marketed toward very sensitive, eczema skin types. It’s crazy that people have to pay that if they really have to use those. The ingredients aren’t more expensive, really. They know people will pay that because they may find that it’s one of the few things their skin will tolerate, and they price gouge. Sigh. Oh, well. I’ll just use my Cetaphil balm (the one without petrolatum). I really like it. Watch it go up to 30.00 in a few months…. https://www.amazon.com/Waxelene-Multipurpose-Petroleum-Alternative-Moisturizer/dp/B00D3PMP20/ref=mp_s_a_1_1_sspa?dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.a3qLm0z-NMW8FEzcxGzGoHnwvIeODQDX1WFQJ_Z9UZMpk8YJyitKd8y1idDyFOA11OqY9igeawVCyAkH2KWTv9ZX2N-NhfeXI0_1R-BVfD_wzhW9bu67EmkK9rh7UfOJ6a0uE7rWBPY47X9yPRPlI5lDAOYDU59wI61rLsoZYGaN7GaRJlsHiEJ4PvV3Jbl60X188_DHEwXdpX1myH1iFg.DrVb_TMRBdud2fpSfjIKILbaDa1kx0QXHbYPZGzqzhk&dib_tag=se&keywords=waxelene&qid=1715279911&sr=8-1-spons&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9waG9uZV9zZWFyY2hfYXRm&psc=1 Have you ever used this Waxelene stuff? Gee. I want some more of it, but I’m not going to order it. FYI it’s supposed to be a natural alternative to Vaseline. Quote
Corraleno Posted May 9 Posted May 9 I'd just make that at home, it's just soy oil and beeswax, with a little Vitamin E and rosemary oil as preservatives. There are a bunch of recipes on line for homemade "vaseline alternatives." This one explicitly refers to homemade Waxelene: 1/8 cup grated beeswax or pellets, 1/2 cup olive or avocado oil. This one uses 1 oz of beeswax + 1/2 cup of olive oil. This one uses 1/8 cup beeswax pellets + 1/4 cup olive oil + 1/4 cup coconut oil. This is a YouTube tutorial with same recipe as above, just double the quantity (1/4 c wax, 1/2 c each olive & coconut oils) Most of the recipes I found have the same proportions of 4 parts oil to 1 part beeswax, and some suggest adding a few drops of vitamin E oil and whatever essential oils you want. The Waxelene jar says "aerated" so if you want the same texture I'd try hitting it with an immersion blender while it's still warm but not yet set. 5 Quote

I have made balms before, even whipped shea buttter. I’ve never tried soybean oil, though. Maybe there’s something different about it. Or something about the way they aerate it. It feels more premium and less greasy but still so moisturizing. It is fun to make them at home. I have everything necessary to make some now, but with …maybe jojoba oil instead. A little castor oil would make it rich. Thanks for all those links. I will look at them, especially the Waxelene dupe. 3 Quote
