This o’dark-thirty stuff from Amazon is creepy. I ordered a whole bunch of stuff for a fundraising activity and didn’t go over each individual delivery schedule at check out. Turns out, one was scheduled for the early overnight that starts at 4am.

On the bright side, it was 5 when the dogs and cameras went off, not 4.

I don’t like it when convenience is inconvenient! 🥱

I have been guilty of not checking, too. Then I find the package at my door and think, this came already? And at the same time I realize it was delivered in the dark with no porch light on. I’m trying to be mindful of that now. Seems more of them are delivered at these times.

Sometimes it’s a female driver, and I really worry for their safety. Also I wonder what percentage of in the dark deliveries are made without lighting, loose dogs in the yard, etc. It just seems unsafe to me. I have no idea what precautions Amazon is taking for driver safety.

I had a strange delivery this week, too. I ordered a dietary supplement from Amazon, but it was coming from GNC. Apparently it came *directly* from the GNC at the mall, 45 minutes away. My daughter said some dude (no uniform, no delivery truck) dropped it off in a GNC bag (it was sealed and the bag was stapled with a receipt). Doesn’t seem cost effective to me, to hand deliver one small thing that far!!

I found they were a lifesaver when one of the kids needed something for school that was accidentally broken and completely out of stock elsewhere. But I agree it probably shouldn’t default to that delivery.

I've not yet experienced this myself, but... people (in general) don't want to wait any longer than they have to for stuff. And I suppose if delivery drivers can be on the road when traffic is light, they can make more deliveries in less time. It's possible that some people choose specific shifts for their own reasons (convenience, childcare, etc). But in any case I doubt Amazon cares a whole bunch about driver safety.

For me and my local delivery people, it's better to have deliveries come before 7am, because my dog is crated overnight & won't lose his sh!t or scare same out of the delivery person.

Lucky! The chi-mutt gets crated, but still barks at any disturbance outside.

Side note - the GSD was sleeping on the couch as I wound down for the evening last night. When dh got home from firehouse drill, Sam had a very delayed (for him) reaction to someone entering the house and was clearly deeply embarrassed for a good 10 minutes. That poor boy’s eyes and ears showed how much he believed he let us down!
(He typically starts as vehicles round the corner at the far end of our property!)

When I eventually went out to grab the packages, the surrounding area reeked of skunk. In addition to most households being armed and maybe not realizing someone has legit reason to be there before dawn, I imagine the wildlife must be a real concern for drivers here!

We can choose an early morning or mid morning delivery window also. Lots of people choose the early early window so they can be home when packages are delivered before they head to work. We have lots of porch pirates in our area.

I hate coming home to no porch light.  I'd turn it on when I left, even in daylight.   And I'd come home to no porch light because someone turned it off.

I now have light activated light bulbs in my regular outdoor fixtures.  Flip the switch to on, and never think about them again.  Come on at dusk, off at dawn.  I also have solar path lights along my driveway.

We seem to be at the end of the package guys route and I wish I could put if its after 9pm go home I can wait another day

Mine just submit that it's delayed and will come the next day.....(usually not a problem,  but I had a much needed item scheduled to be delivered to 2dd's the day before Iwas flying out.  Too late.  At least I  was able to finally cancel it.)

Then there was the driver that "delivered to the mail room".   I live on a street with rows of individual mail boxes.  They left it on top.  Our street gets trail walkers.  Fortunately it was still there, but I complained to Amazon.

So, another package was shipped USPS. My tracking just showed that they “attempted delivery” but “no secure location” to put it. 😡😡😡

Not only does EVERY delivery company leave my millions of packages at my garage door (rain or shine), but I have been home ALL day. I hate my USPS.

I've had Walmart delivery do that. Like, did they grab an employee who lives near me and ask them to drop it on the porch on their way home??

I recently tracked an order that was “out for delivery “ by the US mail. The mail came and went but no package. The next morning, I woke up and checked my email. It was then available to be picked up at my local post office annex. So I drove to town to get it, and the guy behind the counter said it had been scheduled for delivery to my house that day. I drive home and waited for it. Finally, it got delivered that day. Weird. 🤷‍♀️
