DawnM Posted April 14 Posted April 14 Dang, who knew 4 wheeled luggage would make me so happy! I still have some 2 wheeled luggage that is in excellent shape, but I am seriously thinking of swapping them out for 4 wheels and just paying the $$ to do it. When I was a little girl and really up until the last 25 years, I didn't have ANY wheels. I had one of those fold up dolly things I traveled with. And I was thankful for it! 😂 I was thrilled when 2 wheeled luggage came out, and now.....well, what will they think of next? (A handsome bell boy who comes with luggage would be Devine! 😂) 2 1 Quote
klmama Posted April 14 Posted April 14 If you can try the 4-wheeled ones in person, that's even better. Some steer better than others when all 4 wheels are on the ground. Better steering is really helpful in preventing your arm from getting tired from the weight when it's tipped onto 2 wheels, as well as on airplanes when you are trying to steer it down the aisle. Happy shopping! 3 1 Quote

If it is for cabin luggage, I would pay and get a 4 wheeled one. For check in, I don’t bother because my husband and my teens would help me pull it all the way to the check in counter for departure, and the baggage cart would do the work on arrival. Cabin luggage is the one that have to be easy for me to manage. I would go Macy’s, Nordstrom Rack, TJMaxx and try out the luggages. While the Samsonite ones are easy on tile and carpet, they are not as fun on uneven/rough sidewalks. If I am going to an airport that need the bus to transfer to the plane, I would be taking my cabin luggage with big roller wheels or take a duffel bag. 1 Quote
Bootsie Posted April 14 Posted April 14 I have found Osprey two-wheeled luggage is much easier to handle than any 4-wheeled luggage I have ever handled. 5 1 Quote

The wheels roll and manuever like no bags I have ever had before, The wheels are integrated into the bag--so they do not "stick out" at the bottom of the bag to get caught on things when the bag is being loaded/unloaded. 3 1 Quote

Thanks. I worry about the 4 wheeled ones, esp as often my carry on gets down into the belly of the plane and I worry about the wheels breaking off 1 Quote
prairiewindmomma Posted April 14 Posted April 14 Spinner wheels arent great on cobblestone, but they are fantastic for everything else. Personally, I prefer to travel with a carryon backpack only. No wheels! 4 Quote
goldberry Posted April 14 Posted April 14 I chose a two wheel Travelpro when I recently replaced mine. I have been flying a lot over the last 3-4 years. At the airport, I don't think there has been a single time I have not seen at least one four wheel with a broken wheel. Don't know if those are just cheaply made? But I didn't want to risk it. If you've had 4 wheels that lasted many years, what brand do you have? 1 Quote
mommyoffive Posted April 14 Posted April 14 We have not had a wheel break off of our 4 wheel ones ever. We just go with cheaper ones from Walmart or TJ Max. We have been getting Ifly brand from Walmart. 1 1 Quote
MEmama Posted April 14 Posted April 14 I've always one bagged it with a backpack, but I think after my last trip I'm now over it. The blisters from the extra weight and change in footfall, the constant taking it on and off on public transport, the just...lugging. As soon as we came home I bought myself a matching wheeled under seater (which seems large enough it just might become my usual bag) and one for the overhead (which in retrospect I probably don't need) that stack with a luggage sleeve should I use both. I can't wait to try them. They are from Samsonite. 4 Quote
gardenmom5 Posted April 14 Posted April 14 I have some of both. I just bought a wheeled under seater (that will hold my laptop) that it really doesn't matter if it has two wheels vs four. Four wheels is longer. pay attention to steering on all four wheels, pay attention to the sturdiness of the handle - and the ease of pulling it out and pushing it back in. Pay attention to can you put it on a larger suitcase and it is stable, and you can pull the larger suitcase. (my 25"'s handle, is the same height as the width of my underseater ..not fun trying to pull both of them. . . .gotta do something. It's been super hard finding a wheeled under seater that will hold my laptop. - and I even went to the Tumi store. . .) 1 Quote

Well, I have done it 2 wheeled for years and years, so I do know how to make 2 wheels work. However, this will be great. I do have an under-seat bag that I haven't used yet that has 4 wheels that is somewhere in the recesses of our stuff in the garage, I need to dig it out, I actually forgot about it!. That is mine and I plan to try it out on this trip and check in most of my things. But the other 4 may get replaced. I just don't want to spend tons to make it happen. So, we will see. My boys might actually want to check most of their stuff and just carry a backpack, I guess I need to ask them. And I think they might be fine with 2 wheeled luggage. 1 Quote
Navymom Posted April 16 Posted April 16 I usually one bag it with a 30L Osprey backpack, I am 62 and still find it super comfortable to carry. I have learned to travel with less over the years. It fits in nearly all cabin bins or at my feet. On smaller domestic flights you will nearly always have to gate check your bag, which is fine if you don't have a tight connection. We also own 2 wheeled Osprey bags that DH prefers, plus misc. other carry on bags, backpacks, etc. DH keeps asking me if I would like one of the larger 4 wheeled Osprey bags, but I really don't have a need for one. I bet that they are super nice though, as all of the other Osprey stuff we own is fantastic. 1 Quote
