Hello! My oldest is currently a junior. We're starting to make our game plan for college application season and I am curious: What is the earliest that students may submit applications (generally speaking)? I know every application is different, and most of the sites we're looking at say that the Early Action deadlines are around November 15th. But those are the deadlines; I'm curious how early she can submit--August? September? Just curious if anyone might share the earliest they were able to submit.

Are there any pros or cons or obstacles you've come up against when submitting as early as possible? Thank you for any advice!

I think L got some opportunities to apply early in June/July, and did most of the apps before school started. But that was also 2020/2021, so there wasn't much else TO do!!

In comparison, M finally hit "submit" on Jan 31....

We did a campus tour last July at a school. When we were there, the admissions officer said applications were open already.

The common app opens August 1st.

Early summer, after the previous year’s admissions season is essentially over. Might be later this year due to the FAFSA nightmare?

We know plenty of kids who applied in the summer and were accepted (to local, non-selective schools with rolling admissions) by the beginning of the school year.

I am hoping August 1st. We are looking at University of Indiana.

I was just reading about their Language Flagship program. It sounds fantastic!

Yup, I think applying early to IU is a good idea.  Even though IU transitioned away from rolling admissions this year, those who applied earlier got acceptances and merit offers in late November or early December.  My kid applied a few days before the EA deadline and didn't hear back until early January.

Oh, I didn’t realize they didn’t have rolling admissions anymore.
