We have some movies we quote a lot and I know other families do as well.   What are yours?

Here are a couple of our less common movie quotes:

From The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel:   "It will all work out in the end.  If it hasn't worked out yet, it's not the end!"

From The Gods Must Be Crazy:   "Is the noise in my head bothering you?"

Here are a couple more well known movies:

From Dumb and Dumber: "One in a million! So you're telling me there's a chance!"

From Back to the Future:   "Last night, Darth Vader Came down from planet Vulcan and told me if I didn't take Lorraine out, he'd melt my brain."

So many more, but what are yours?

Most of these are pretty well-known movies, but quotes we throw around the family a lot.

Better Off Dead: "I want my two dollars!"

Monty Python: "'Tis but a flesh wound..."

The Princess Bride: "Have fun storming the castle!"

Despicable Me: "He's so fluffy, I'm gonna die!" and "The physical appearance of the please makes no difference."

Toy Story: "The word I'm looking for I cannot say, because there are preschool toys present."

From Spanglish (said to my closest sibling or back to me when one of us is overwhelmed with difficult parenting choices), “You live for your children. I live for myself. None of it works. None of it.”

Oh, lines from Monty Python, Star Wars, and Princess Bride are quoted often around here.

"It comes in pints?" "My friends, you bow to no one." "You should have stayed dead." "It is not this day."

"One plus one plus two plus one." "Flames. . . Flames on the side of my face."

"Have a biscuit" and pick any random Molly Weasley quote.

"What, like it's hard?" from Legally Blonde, between DD and me.

Ghostbusters 2: "Don't worry. She's tough. She's a harbor Chick."

It gets us through any dr appt or tricky time with the kids.

“Get in loser we’re going ______” mean girls

Pretty much any line from What About Bob. So many apply to so many circumstances.

”Don’t you remember, you was there too”- Maters Tall Tales

Tons of lines from the decades of adventures In odyssey or the pond

Princess Bride mostly. We don't get out enough.

"I am not left handed."

"I do not think that means what you think it means."

One of my faves when I'm too short to reach something, "Farmboy, fetch that for me."

The use of book/movie/tv show quotes is so frequent in our family that we often say that we speak Darmok. This name is itself a reference to a ST:TNG episode, so that probably counts as yet another quote. Some recent ones:

”You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.” (Princess Bride)

”Shut up, Wesley!” (ST: TNG)

”You need people of intelligence on this sort of mission…quest…thing.” (LOTR)

”Another great idea from the people who brought you beeeeeer milkshakes!” (Red Dwarf)

Oh so many!!! These are just a few I've said today.

"Listen. Do you smell something?"

"What do you need that for Dude?"

"You're out of your element."

The Princess Bride. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means. ~Inigo Montoya

As you wish. ~ Wesley

Star Wars. Impressive. ~ Darth Vader (in the DV voice, of course)

Napoleon Dynamite, "Tina, eat. Food! Eat the food!"

Like many others, tons from Princess Bride.

Also lots of Homestar Runner quotes. "This will grow you some nice fish-corn bushes!" and "Kids don't play with too many knives!"

Many more, but those off the top of my head.

"I'm just not sure how well this plan was thought through." -Meet the Robinsons

"We don't talk about [substitute whatever else besides Bruno]." -Encanto

Princess Bride, Emperor's New Groove - soooo many quotes from both of those

And a ton from various Star Trek shows, Psych, Buffy, Angel, as well as the Harry Potter books.

It's supposed to be hard. If it was easy, everyone would do it.

A slight mangling of Tom Hanks' lines in A League of Their Own, most often said in reference to someone saying that homeschooling is hard 😂

along with There's no crying in homeschool!

Our family's most favorite movie is "Oscar" - our cats are named after the characters and we quote lines on a daily basis. A few of our favorites:

"That's OK...I'll get it!" (when the phone rings or someone knocks on the door, and of course in the same super nasally voice as in the movie)

"Expeditiously" (Snaps' word for the day)

"You are an ox AND a moron!!" (oh gosh, I'm giggling just thinking about that scene)

"It's like disarming Germany!" (whenever the kids see me digging through/emptying my purse, lol)

"Of course I knew...I just had no idea!" (my kids' excuse for so many things now)

"This is your third (insert whatever it is here) and it isn't even lunch yet!!"

Such a great movie...

Lots. My own personal most-used line is "Welcome to the party, pal!" I'm kinda spicy lately.

We quote the comedian, Brian Regan, all the time!

Many! Great topic.

Many from Princess Bride, which seems to be a Hive winner. Many from Hamilton, which is only sort of a movie. Several from the LOTR movies, especially "we're going in circles".

"Just put that anywhere" when someone drops something, from Groundhog's Day.

"I'm not panicking, I'm freaking out" I don't even remember where this is from - one of the Ocean's movies?

"Oh, you wouldn't want to look in there" from Repo Man.

The princess bride is quoted quite a bit.

dsil likes to say "Have fun storming the castle."

other people are more varied in their quotations.

dh loves Vader's line: The emperor is not as forgiving as I am.

2ds quotes all sorts of stuff.

oh yes, elevensies, what about second breakfast, etc.

I used to wake the boys with 'X o'clock and all is well!' from the old Robin Hood animated movie.

I would also sing 'They call me meanie mama... That's right..'  They'd ask if it was a real song and I'd say yes.  They didn't know it was 'They call me Mello Yello.. That's right'.  Yes, definitely dating myself with that old commercial.

From Anastasia "This can only end in tears." (Bartok, a Russian bat, in a Russian accent)

From Willow "Wiiiiilow, you iiiidiot!" (A magician turned into a goat, reprimanding their student, with expressive bleating)

Excuse me, I was coming here to be the only one whose family used “two dollars” ALL the time. We’re quoting all the same movies as you so I’m not even going to bother now. 🤣

Cute topic!

Our quotes are not always accurate, but we know what they're from:

What About Bob?:   "I'm on a vacation! A vacation from my problems!"

and "I'm sailing! I'm a sailor!"

O Brother, Where Art Thou?: "We thought you was a toad..."

Pride and Prejudice: "If I had studied piano, I would have been a proficient."

Jane Eyre: "I declare the existence of an impediment!"

Yes.  It can be so confusing to people outside our family.

I've been known to use this.  I eventually had to make my kids watch the movie so they would get the referece.

Us, too! 🤣

In addition to all the Princess Bride, LOTR and Star Wars references ...

"I picked a bad time to stop sniffing glue."  from the movie Airplane. And I've accidentally muttered it in settings where people didn't get the reference and thought I was a closet drug addict instead of the ridiculously straight arrow person I am.

We just pulled into a resort yesterday and we pulled the car up front. I felt compelled to inform DH that “the blue zone is for loading and unloading only” (in the airport voice, of course) and he replies with something about being tired of my blue zone nonsense.

I do not think it means what you think it means.

Feed me Seymour (when one of us is hangry).

Tis but a flesh wound or Tis but a scratch.

So many from So I Married an Axe Murderer. So many.

Better off Dead

”This fabulous le-core!”

”Sorry about your mom Ricky”

The whole Howard Cosell bit

Princess Bride

Inconceivable!”

You keep using that word. . . “

“Never go up against a Sicilian when death is on the line!”

Groundhogs Day. “Oooh it’s an earthquake!” Any time we get behind a little old driver going slow. That inevitably leads into the bit about “you totaled it” and “it’s that nice young man from the motor club!”

“Too early for flapjacks?”
“They’re hicks, Rita”

"Nuke the site from orbit; it's the only way to be sure." and "Game over, man! Game over!" from Aliens.

"Are those the only choices?" and "It's all in me 'ed..." from Chicken Run.

"If everyone is (adjective), no one is." paraphrased from The Incredibles.

"You stay here, and make sure he doesn't leave." "We're coming with you!" or any other reference to the guard scene in Monty Python and the Holy Grail, because that's how my kids listen.

We also quote Groundhog Day, The Princess Bride, and Star Wars a lot.

Edit: I forgot two critical ones:

Ghostbusters!  "Dogs and cats living together -- mass hysteria!"  "Let's get ready. Switch me on."  "I didn't choose anything!  Did you choose anything?" and others

and we often say "This means something... This is important." when mounding food, sand, garden soil, etc. in reference to Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

"There's no crying in baseball" from A League of Their Own. We say that one a lot, about many things.

"They could be fascist anarchists for all I care...it doesn't change the fact that I still don't have a car" from Ferris Bueller's Day Off

In general, though, we quote TV shows more than movies

We do quote movies. But my kids seem to be able to find a quote from Studio C for almost any occasion. I've considered having a Studio C day where they are only allowed to talk in Studio C quotes.

Monty Python, Princess Bride, & Star Wars lines are a quarter of our conversations it seems! Seriously though, they come up all the time!

Also- Ferris Bueller’s Day Off “Bueller?? Bueller??”

and Friends lines, but TV show not movie

I have two kids that quote the office constantly and laugh at me because, though I've seen the show I never recognize the quotes unless there is a name in them.

We quote Lord of the Rings often, the only one I can remember at the moment, "Run you fools".

Studio C gets lots of quoting here as does Tim Hawkins.
