Silly question for the day...

Recommended Posts

As I'm pouring my first cuppa, I realized that I have to have it in a certain cup. Period. Do you have your coffee/tea mug that is yours, only yours and don't serve it to me in any other?

It's like my favorite blankie: don't lose it, drop it, ruin it, use it. It's MINE!!! :D

Mine is polish pottery. It's not too big, and is not like one of those soup bowls. It's tallish and has lovely leaves hand stamped on it. Ahhh...simple pleasures....

At home, no, I don't.

At work (she said as she savored the last sip of her English Breakfast tea before heading home) I do. It's an old white beaker with a blue line drawing of the Cutty Sark. I find it actually keeps my coffee/tea warmer longer.

Also, thanks to my firemen, I have "Mom's plate" I'm to use every shift at dinner. It's a Christmas plate and they make sure I get that plate every shift regardless of the season. I did not pick this plate, my guys did.

And, yes, they actually call me mom while we're in the station (and, on occasion-when they're not thinking-on a call).

And, now, I'm off -- Happy Boxing Day!

Yes, but that's because I drink hot tea at home, made with loose tea; my mug came with a brew basket. I could use the brew basket in other mugs, but this one was made for the basket, KWIM? And I have cream and sugar figured out just for this mug :-)

Also, some years ago Mr. Ellie came home with a mug from work that he'd gotten for some class or other. I *loved* the mug--cobalt blue ceramic, a little tall and narrow, with the handle sort of high on the side (if I think about it later, I'll take a picture). We had a friend whose business was to taking orders for all sorts of stuff with company logos and whatnot; he looked through his own catalogs and found that exact mug, and ordered 8 of them for me. All the random mugs were put away, except for a couple (like the big tall mug I bought at Disneyland). Now my OCD soul is satisifed, lol: 8 matching cobalt-blue mugs that no one else has.:D

Oh, and my favorite tea mug is also cobalt blue. I had one and broke it here in Texas; Mr. Ellie was on a business trip back to San Jose and went to the store where I bought the mug and found the *last two* in the store. I should be set for years.:D

Not one specific mug, but many mugs that I use depending upon my mood. When we travel or sometimes if we have seen a wonderful performance I like to buy a mug. I don't like mugs that look like an ad--I try to buy mugs that are beautiful but reflect that locale or experience well. When I am making my cuppa I survey what's in the cabinet and pick that which will evoke pleasant memories. Silly, I know.

Yes, I have a specific tea mug. It's a beautiful, hand thrown, ribbed, handle-less vessel, dark brown glaze on the outside, celadon on the inside. My husband's is the same, slightly larger, and with opposite glazing. They make you pay attention to the tea you've curled up with.

For coffee, I'd be happy to drink straight from the pot, but that would be gauche. :tongue_smilie:

Mine's a celadon green mug with white interior, so I can accurately guage the amount of milk to add. It keeps my coffee hot, and is aesthetically pleasing. Used to have two (bought at Goodwill) but sadly, one broke.

I bought a set of French blue mugs from Big Lots because I loved the color, but the finish is a bit rough and they get too warm in the microwave.

Sigh. Once you've found perfection, nothing else will really do, will it?

I took it to work....Big mistake...and one day it disappeared. Since then, I've grown attached to three: a large white soup mug (I do share this one with my dh), a "New Mexico" coffee mug (a gift from my ds), and a "Housework whenever, Gardening forever" coffee mug (a gift from a good friend).

Well, then I'm silly too! I pick the mug depending on what mood I'm in. I collect mugs from different places I've been as well! I can pick one of those mugs and get lost in the memories surrounding that mug.

DD accidentally dropped my London mug while back while taking it out of the dishwasher. She was so upset about it, because that was one of my very favorites. Since I knew she was not being careless, I told her she was much more important than the mug, and if I had to choose between the mug and her, I'd certainly pick her! So, really, I came out ahead in the deal!:tongue_smilie: Now I just need to convince dh I NEED to go back to London to replace that mug! (I only stopped in the airport for a few hours while flying home from my Kenya mission trip--a life-long dream....another reason tat mug was special.)

But I digress, I also have two other mugs I like: One is a Winnie the Pooh mug. It's a little larger than some, so when I need a big cuppa (when I have a migraine) that's the one I use. Plus I like Wiinnie the Pooh! :) The other favorite is one a neighbor gave me with packets of hot chocolate and mint in it. That was good! And now it's a special mug!

Yes, I have favorite cups. I used to have one in particular that had winter tree silhouettes and the perfect outward curve to the rim. The handle was just the right size and shape and the mug was the perfect weight and thickness. These things are important! I do still have the cup, but I can't use it because dd cracked it. I bought it at Goodwill and there are no identifying marks on the bottom so I can look for one exactly the same. I've googled it a thousand ways. I also had a mug that dh bought me for my very first Mother's Day. It had a lacy heart with a coral rose and said "Love". I left it at my brother's house and have never seen it since. (Hmmm, I need to ask him about this again!) These two mugs have gone with me on camping trips because I hate drinking from any other mug but my favorite.

While waiting for a replacement for my favorite mug, I have been drinking out of either a Kansas mug with a sketch of a very cool barn on it or a blue and transferware mug with a winter barn scene. I bought one at Walmart that I really liked the looks of, but the shape and size are all wrong. I'm very picky about my coffee mugs! When I go to my mom's or my inlaws' houses, I am picky about which mug I choose there too:001_smile:

Nancypants (Remember her? Does she still post here?) a.k.a. Writer Mom recently opened a Cafe Press store and she has a beautiful tree print which I love. I asked her if she would mind making it available in a mug, and if possible in one with that little outward curve on the rim. That will be my new favorite mug.:D

Yes, a pottery mug with a beautiful grass green glaze that my parents found for me at a Renaissance fair. I use it for coffee in the morning and every afternoon I make iced tea in it. It's tall, sturdy, dishwasher and microwave safe, pretty... But the biggest reason it's my favorite is that it holds 24 oz. so I can always say I just have one cup of coffee in the morning. :)

There are two cups in which I like to have my first and only cup of coffee with a generous heaping of whip cream. If both of those are still unwashed, the need for caffeine takes over and I grab anything.
