klmama
We gave dd Felicity for Christmas. She's thrilled, of course, but she wonders why the doll has no underwear. Isn't she supposed to have it, or is this one of those things we were supposed to order separately?

dangermom
We got a Felicity this morning too! She's just wearing a shift--that's her underwear. Even pantaloons were still pretty futuristic for Felicity, though I think maybe some people were wearing them by then (even so, they would have been legs without any middle seam, so you didn't pull them down to go to the bathroom). You can sew her some, though, if you like--I think I probably will as my daughter wants her to have something.
KayT
I have purchased the My Generation undies sets at Target for our AG dolls. They fit great. We couldn't stand for Felicity to not have her undies on around here!!!
dangermom
Here is an example of the type of pantalettes that women were wearing in 1800 (scroll down a bit): Pantalettes 1800-1830. Here's a Civil War version. As you can see, Felicity would just not have been wearing underwear as we know it.
LisaKinVA
And Felicity is from Revolutionary times (late 1700's)... to boot! Back then, men had buttons, and women tied their clothes on (at least that's what the guides at Colonial Williamsburg were saying). They did have "fancy" buttons on "fancy" clothes -- but the fancy ones were mostly for show.
dangermom
Exactly---so if pantalettes were new stuff in 1800, Felicity probably didn't have any. :001_smile:
klmama
Thanks for the education, ladies! I'll have to break it gently to dd. :)
Matryoshka
It doesn't help cover her posterior, but they sell other era-appropriate undies for Felicity - stays (corset) and a wire undergarment that poofs her skirt out. My kids had to have those. :001_smile:
