Melmc
I was just reading through the WA state requirements and one of the courses the kids are supposed be getting is Health. Does anyone have any recommendations on how to teach health and what to cover? Is there a workbook or text or something to use that you recommend? The Girls' Mom
I just lucked up on some Abeka Health books at the used bookstore this past week. They look pretty good for a health curriculum. You can purchase them for each grade level on their website. :001_smile:
Quad Shot Academy
I like the Steck-Vaughn health series. I got it at Rainbow Resource.
Chels~
Here is a free Nutrition/Health program I came across: http://www.fns.usda.gov/tn/Educators/yourself.html
swellmomma
We use Abeka health books and quite enjoy them. We just use the textbook, not the tests and do the questions asked in the text orally. We spend around 15 minutes a week on the health text book and then do things like menu planning etc to increase teaching nutrition and what not. I always buy them used for $5 or less and they do the trick. Next year we are going to be using Sonlight Science 5 which focuses on the human body, nutrition etc so we are forgoing health lessons for the year. elegantlion
We have used Abeka's texts in the past. They work but can be redundant if you use them every year. The fourth grade one explains the major body systems. Also I found a book on first aid that I plan to use at some point.
Pongo
I have used the Abeka books for 1-5, my oldest took a babysitting course and is CPR/first aid certified as well. I have all three take a R.A.D. course yearly (kids self defense class)
