Melissa in CA
I have just had a very frustrating experience with another website. I purchased a very expensive 2-day shipping option so that we would have a particular game to play over the Christmas weekend. The shipping actually cost more than the game! I figure 2-day shipping means my item will be here within 2 business days. HA! Not so. My item is scheduled to arrive Dec 29th!!! NINE DAY SHIPPING...not TWO! Errrrrrrr!! Needless to say I wrote them a very...umm...nice...email. :w00t: ;) Soooo....I just went into Amazon today to find something else and use their VERY CHEAP 1-day shipping which is only $3.99! They had another game we have been wanting, Ticket to Ride, and it will be here tomorrow! Guaranteed and only $3.99 to ship. They ALSO have the original game we ordered from the 'other' website and I could get IT tomorrow as well. But, I guess that one can be our New Years Day family game since it won't be here until DEC 29th!!! :glare: Note so self: Always check Amazon before ordering from 'the other guys.' plimsoll
I have had this experience as well, though I did not require speedy shipping. I recently bought the Greek Alphabet Code Cracker. Buying direct from Classical Academic Press, the shipping was nearly $10.00. Buying through Amazon (the seller was Classical Academic Press), the shipping was $3.99. Same book, shipping direct from the same publisher (not from Amazon's warehouse), big savings in shipping just buying through Amazon. I have had this experience with many of the smaller publishers that cater to us homeschoolers. For some reason many of them seem to charge exorbitant shipping rates. Just an fyi: if you subscribe to Amazon Prime, $75.00 covers all your shipping for the year (2-day option by default). This does not include items purchased from other vendors who are selling on Amazon, just Amazon items. But if you buy a lot from Amazon, this is a big saving over the course of the year.... Blessedfamily
Amazon has been very reliable for me this season.
Blue Hen
I'm not having such luck right now. We have an Amazon distribution / shipping center in my town, the item I ordered from them is being shipped from that facility, and it will be delivered on the 29th. I have friends who work there so I knew where this item was coming from. The item, ordered the middle of last week, is finally in transit---has to go from here up into PA or MD, and then will return to DE, back to the town it left from, to be delivered on the 29th. I should have thought about the time an item went from here in DE out to KT and then back again before it finally got here. Oh well. DH will understand when it isn't under the tree........... And no, I didn't do the two-day delivery cause I knew where it was being shipped from and knew I had lots of time. Or thought I had lots of time and geeez, it only had to go across our little tiny town. Carole
frogpond1
We usually see the UPS guy weekly on our street, but since the snow has come he is no where to be seen. I'm waiting for Penneys and they send UPS.

Carole Carole, I can see how frustrating that would be. :001_huh: Sometimes the postal service routes are just plain goofy. Too bad you couldn't have driven over and picked it up from them. I think what I would do in your case is print up a picture of the Amazon item and wrap it up in a box for your hubby to open Christmas morning. :D
elegantlion
I've had good success with Amazon this year too. I love that CAP maintains a storefront there, I just found that out a few weeks ago. I have one item I'm still waiting on from Amazon, it was supposed to be here yesterday, but isn't. I hope it arrives before Christmas, I should have simply paid the shipping. :glare:
mommybee
I am loving Amazon this year. I do pay for prime and everything has come in such a timely fashion. I even had a recent order that I incorrectly sent to myself when it was a gift for my brother's family. I was able to find contact information and Amazon called me!! It was really cool because they took care of it immediately and saved me a lot of trouble. I was very impressed. I love the prime membership because all of my family live far so in Christmas presents alone I have more than made up what I paid.

Does it cover everything or just the super saver items? I usually just wait until I have $25 to order.

We are doing that with a couple of DSs presents. We knew when we ordered their inline skate wheels (they compete competitively) that they wouldn't arrive until after Jan 8th. Hopefully oldest DS' new helmet arrives tomorrow although it was supposed to be here yesterday.... If it isn't here we'll be putting a picture in a box too. Should be a fun Christmas morning --- "hmmm, does this box have a present or a picture?" It will all be good. Carole

It seems to cover more than super saver items, but not everything. What I like most if the two day shipping. It's easier to order something simple than for me to run to the store for little items. Like once I needed new phone cord and that only cost a few dollars, but was just easier than running to Walmart. Plus I can send very low cost little items to my niece's and nephews and it doesn't cost a fortune. If it's a $10 item it's so easy to ship for birthdays and such. I have eight nieces and nephews so shipping or even mailing out something for every birthday can be expensive. This has worked out really well for me. Vicki
I used Prime this holiday season and love it. Everything came in 2 or 3 days. I shipped small orders and larger orders and it didn't matter. God bless, Vicki
Tap
I have been very happy with Amazon also. They have shipped very fast this year and even with free shipping items are arriving in 2-3 days. I also like that they break it down for you and tell you the different ETAs for the different shipments. I also like how easy they have been about returns. Quick and painless. Stacy in NJ
Yes!!!! Love my Prime membership. The $75 fee really is worth it. Just FYI, some book items that are sold via other vendors still qualify for 2 day free shipping. I bought several Lego kits without paying shipping. Stacy in NJ
I really like the customer reviews section and Peek Inside option. You can get a much better sense of a product via the reviews. You can sometimes read the entire first chapter, or at least view the table of contents. Lovely customer service too. love amazon.

I usually just wait until I have $25 to order. I have had Prime for about two years and it was JUST two weeks ago that I discovered I didn't have to have $25 in orders to get the free 2-day shipping. I was able to send myself a $7 book with free-ship. Can everyone say "duh" with me? To think that all this time I have ordered only after accumulating $25 in my cart. :001_huh: Good grief. If you use Amazon a lot, the Prime is definitely worth it. Unfortunately not every item is a Prime item....but Amazon lets you know at the top of your page if it's available for Prime or not. But what's nice is that even if the item is not prime...it is still only $3.99 to ship. Don't ask me why I didn't shop Amazon for my game in the first place!:confused::confused: I was in a hurry and this 'other' site had a great sale going on that saved me oodles of money (yeah right!). I won't be falling for THAT line again. Lesson DEFINITELY learned.

I bought 4 oz of shea butter at Whole Foods (can't find ANY locally) and was glad to have it, until I saw 8 oz on Amazon for the same price. Not to mention Whole Foods is a long drive(I stopped in at Trader Joe's while I was there). I'm done with driving around in search of small items! Well, actually I'll be searching for another small item this afternoon, but then I'm done!
