SW in IL
My ex forced me to have my tubes tied when my son (now 14) was 6 weeks old. I've regretted it ever since. I'm now in a relationship with a wonderful man who would love to have children. I'm wondering how successful the surgery is to have the tubal reversed, and about how much it would cost. Also, I'm 42 years old, so I'm wondering if I'm just 'too old' to go through that and a pregnancy (or two!). And, could I get pregnant through in vitro fertilization without having the surgery reversed? Any other options? We've talked about adopting and/or becoming foster parents but would still like to have our own biological child. Thanks, Sue
Holly IN
You need to make sure you have a very good reversal dr. I got a reversal but the dr was no good!! I did get pregnant but it ended up as an ectopic which almost cost me my life. (Stay away from Dr. Streeter from Indiana!) If you do it I would have Dr. Levin from Louiville, Ky. OnTheBrink
I didn't know they'd do a reversal on someone with MS. How would pregnancy affect that?
StaceyinLA
I was young, thin and it had only been 3 years since my tubal. I had a fertility dr assist my ob and it was a "success." A year later I had an ectopic that almost ruptured. They saved the tube. I didn't get pg for 5 more years. Then I had 3 ectopics in 10 months. After the 3rd one, I had the tubes removed. I couldn't take the emotional devastation of the ectopics. A year after that, I had a hysterectomy. I do know people who have had successful ones. I just don't think my having another baby was in God's plan.
Laurie
I didn't know they'd do a reversal on someone with MS. How would pregnancy affect that? Given her post on 11-25-08 it made me wonder how this could even be the same person. I questioned her on an "inconsistency" recently but she didn't respond. I wonder if she'll respond to you? I know this person had a history of duping people (in other way$) on the old board.

SW in IL
My husband and I are separated and the paperwork for our divorce is in the works. We've been separated for several years and we've both met other people. My relationship with "M" is strictly platonic but we are making plans for the future and we hope that will involve having a child together, thus my question. As to my multiple sclerosis, MS usually goes into remission during pregnancy. The added stress of a new baby could make it worse afterwards. I have mentioned my desire to get pregnant to my neurologist who would need to consult with the OB/GYN to evaluate whether my MS is stable enough to withstand another pregnancy. I realize there is still much that is up in the air about all of this, but all I'm really trying to do is plan for what I hope will be a better, brighter future. kalanamak
My ex forced me to have my tubes tied when my son (now 14) was 6 weeks old. I've regretted it ever since. I'm now in a relationship with a wonderful man who would love to have children. I had my tubes tied for 21 years, then got them reversed. I originally approached them about in vitro, because it is less invasive, but after checking my hormones (via a clomid stim test) AND hubby's swimmers, we were both rejects. They wouldn't waste the time in the lab for us (and lower their stats). So I said "how much does a reversal cost"? I was 6000$ all included. You need to do a dye test so the doc can give you your chances and know what they are going in after. Tube diameter matters. So, if you have a big section removed and are trying to stitch a big diameter out by the ovary to a small one in by the uterus, there is less sucess. I'd been "banded". The surgery took almost 4 hours (I was told I was much longer than average), I went home that night, very weak, and the recovery was days longer than a C section, but all in all not bad. I had no ectopic, was preggers in 6 months (I tracked temp and ovul. tests and spent many an evening with my heels on the wall reading a book). Pregnancy at that age depends a lot on your health. My OB said I had "the pregnancy of a 22 year old" and I felt GREAT, and I was in my 40's. I didn't try again, however. We felt like we got "just under the wire" with low chance of conception, the reversal, AND a baby without any chromosomal problems, etc. I'd love to know what the "record" is for years of sterilization before a live birth. I've never met anyone with more than 10, let alone over 20. This might be my claim to fame :)
