Jean in Newcastle
Dd7 has a terrible rash on her legs. I think it might be ringworm because it is oval with very angry red edges but smooth nice skin inside the oval. It has gotten very big - it goes from right under her bottom and her inner thighs down to mid calf. It could be eczema too? She has other patches on her bottom and then on her shoulders. I'm giving her acidophilus 2x a day. And I'm putting Lotrimin on the rash as well as tea tree oil. I've been treating her now for a week. I got worried today because she gouged the skin along one of the rash areas and it bled for about 5 min. before I got it to stop. I put antibiotic cream on the gash. Do you think I should try to get her into a Dr.? Pretty much everything is shut down around her (not E.R. but normal Dr's offices) due to more snow than we've seen in many, many years. clarkacademy
Hey join the ring worm club we got it here too!! If she has broken the skin according to my DR. she needs put on antibiotics especially if you have treated over a week. 2 out of my 4 have it. My son had a wittle place on his back but all through his scalp!! My poor baby her legs were just ate up with it. Hers seemed to pop up over night she also has exema which I am most likely misspelling there. He told me they are more prone to the skin rashes than other children. Good luck and I do hope it all works out for you.
Jean in Newcastle
So are you treating it just with the antibiotics?

BMW
I had eczema that looked just like ringworm. But, I hate to say one way or another for another person. Poor girl! I hope the weather clears so that you feel like you have more than the option of staying at home. I've heard of off the wall treatments for ringworm... like, burning a brown paper bag and taking the ash from it and putting that on it and it heals it... but that is over 20 years old and could be nonsense! Mine was just eczema, like I mentioned.

It could be something else besides ringworm. I myself had something once all over my back that looked like ringworm. I was horrified. I went to the doctor. She took one look at it, claimed it was ringworm, refused to do a culture or whatever you call it. She sent me home with meds and it didn't help at all. (Neither had the over the counter stuff I'd tried.) I finally went to a dermatologist (who did test it to see what it was) and I don't remember what the name of it was...but it was long and I could barely prounounce it. He gave me some meds he said might or might not help, that it mostly had to run its course. I hardly used the meds because I couldn't reach my back to put it on. It did finally go away on its own within a few weeks. It wasn't contagious to anyone...I don't remember if it itched or not.
JFSinIL
My son has this - we are on week 5 or 6 now (losing count) of putting Lotrimin on it and twice a day anti-fungal pill, too. It went from a dime-sized circle to his entire wrist. I was using generic cream but switched to Lotrimin - maybe the different active ingredient will get rid of this annoyance. MrsMe
It could also be hives. Hives have a ring and can be many small or very large rings, usually a red ring and clear in the middle. Hives itch though and are caused by an allergy or stress. Benedryl can help. Either way, take her in and see what it is.
klmama
Take her in. Better to see a doctor, get the meds, and get her feeling better quickly, than have her get worse and have to wait until next week because the doctor's office is closed the 25-28th. Do you really want to spend Christmas wondering what she has? Call now! :)
klmama
Oops! I just reread your post and saw that your area is snowed in. Is there an on-call nurse with your doctor's office or insurance plan that you could call to ask?
Jean in Newcastle
I'll try calling the Drs. office. My dh's clinic (dialysis clinic) is only working on emergency status right now and I'm sure that is true for other medical offices too. In a region that usually only gets 2 inches of snow a year, we've gotten a foot and a half in the last 3 days.
