BamaTanya
I need to do something for his birthday. Should I make his favorite cake? It's the one Mom always made for him. I'm torn. Maybe I should make something new? I know I could ask him, but he's just going to say, "No, don't bother with my birthday." Meaning: you have enough to do; don't worry about me. So, I need it to be part of his surprise. tia for your thoughts
Tap
I would make him the cake. The traditions lost, are some of the things that keep the wound of loosing someone fresh. Some People really enjoy knowing that the traditions won't be lost and someone else still loves them. If you want to you can tell him "I am making you a cake whether you like it or not, do you want to pick or shall I" Said with humor of course. LOL. So he has a chance for a new edition, if he didn't care for the old. My mom used to make my dad a chocolate cake, he never cared for chocolate, mom knew that but baked it anyways. Or, make two - the one your mom made and another. - a nod to the past and a nod to the future.
