mlktwins
Good morning. I am behind on getting these things 🤪, but am wondering where y'all ordered your homeschool diploma and cap/gown? I am looking at this website at the moment https://www.homeschooldiploma.com/?gad=1&gclid=CjwKCAjw67ajBhAVEiwA2g_jEMZgv4qBuyG2B8GGvQePjc3BNFk4fmm3OWip8AqsAH0FaRZn8gG5DBoCGmUQAvD_BwE My guys do not want to attend any of our local graduation ceremonies nor do they want a grad party. I want diplomas and pictures in exchange for letting both of those things go😁 and to send a few announcements to family and a few friends. Also, what did you put as your school name if you didn't have an actual school name? We have one, but I'm not sure I want to put it on the diploma. Thanks so much!
Arcadia
It is college and community college graduation season here. Maybe ask if any of your sons’ friends would lend them theirs for photo taking? DS18’s cap and gown cost us around $80 last year and DS17 would be reusing the same gown and cap this year since they are almost the same height and DS18 did not decorate the mortar board. We didn’t do a high school diploma. DS18 was happy to post with his community college diploma (in a holder, something like this one https://www.amazon.com/Certificate-Graduation-Faux-leather-Grad-Days/dp/B01L93KCOU/) so that was what we sent to close relatives. My kids do not want to be on social media so my husband had to remind his relatives. My relatives don’t post photos on their social media. Lori D.
Yes, we did diplomas through Homeschool Diploma. They came out very nice. One DS had "honors" level GPA, so his diploma also had the honors gold sticker on it. We used "Homeschool High School," as we did not have a school name. Caps and gowns... we did participate in our homeschool support group's ceremony, but getting the caps and gowns was another mom's job (mine was designing and printing the programs), so I don't know where she ordered them from. I only needed to buy one set for first DS, and second DS re-used. I donated those to the homeschool group after the second graduation. One thought -- can you look at what color of cap and gown their future universities require for the graduation ceremony, and get those now for high school graduation -- and at least get double duty out of them?? Or even better -- could you just borrow 2 caps and gowns from other homeschoolers for the photos, and purchase the color of tassel each DS would like to put on the caps? Corraleno
I also used Homeschool Diploma and was very pleased with their products. I used a fairly generic-sounding Academy name for our homeschool and included that on the diploma. I second borrowing caps & gowns and just buying a tassel if you can, as they're ridiculously expensive for something you only wear for a few hours. I didn't buy a cap & gown for my kids, but I did buy them for an elderly developmentally-disabled relative whose last bucket-list wish was to get a HS diploma, so when he entered hospice I ordered a diploma, cap, and gown from Homeschool Diploma with express shipping. He died peacefully in his sleep the night after he "graduated." Please don't quote the photo, I'll delete it later. idnib
We also got the diploma from the same place, although we're waiting to give it to DS. It came out very nicely and was quick, which was surprising for the season. Right now he's in the throes of cc finals this week. I don't think he would have any interest in the cap and gown.
Eos
Each of mine has had a friend/artist make theirs. So far one is a watercolor landscape, one is pen and ink of flowers, one is more formal pen. They all have spaces for everyone at the graduation to sign as witnesses. Youngest has asked an artist friend to make hers, but we haven't sen it yet. We're the Lilac Hill Farm Homeschool because we live with an exuberance of lilacs. This year is an especially great year for the lilacs, I believe they gave it their all for my last graduate. My grads just wear normal dressy clothes for their graduations. We have a good sized party with family, friends, and mentors, and my kids make a speech to thank their community and mentors specifically for their care and help in educating them. When dd got a Fulbright they needed a copy of her high school diploma so she printed one from the internet to be official rather than send one ringed with hand-drawn flowers 🙂
regentrude
I made my own diploma, printed in fancy font on fancy embossed paper I got at Staples. As school name we put Streetname Academy. We didn't bother with cap/gown. Edited Friday at 12:40 AM by regentrude
