Mary in GA
Would it be a big deal to skip 7? We are doing 6 now and I own 8. I'm mainly trying to save a buck. Grammar is and always has been very easy for dd. Would we be missing any important grammar or composition skills? Thanks. Mary
Beth in Central TX
Wow, I don't think I would do this. There is a big jump from R&S grammar 6 to 8. R&S grammar 8 is very, very advanced. I've been working through the diagramming work in R&S 8 as part of my self-education, and it's been challenging; luckily, I have the answers... Of course, you know your daughter, and you own R&S grammar 8, so it's really your call. My only caution is that it could be too advanced and cause more frustration for your daughter rather than learning. As far as curriculum goes, R&S is very reasonably priced. I know things are tight right now, but if price is your only reason to make this jump, I would personally make a change somewhere else. HTH! He has always found grammar to be easy and actually completed 4 and 5 in the same year. Level 8 wasn't a breeze, but certainly not overly difficult, and that's where we left R&S grammar. You won't miss any concepts from 7 because everything is covered again in level 8, just a bit more in-depth. You can always try it for a couple chapters and if it's just too much, order book 7. For 7th - 12th we're doing other grammar-type things like Elements of Style, Our Mother Tongue, The Roar on the Other Side (poetry) and those kinds of English/composition works. MIch elle
I don't recommend it. :tongue_smilie: The first chapter of R&S 6, 7 & 8 begin with reviewing what's been covered the previous year, and it's expected that you need only a quick review. check homeschoolclassifieds.com, ebay, twtm and vegsource for used R&S materials

Ellie
Well, since you already own 8th, it couldn't hurt to try it out. If it seems to be way over your dd's head, you can always go back to 7th.
plansrme
My daughter is in 6th now. Eighty percent of 6th has been review of what she learned last year, the first year she had done any formal grammar. (Last year was our first HS year--she had no grammar in private school). She is making 100s on all of the tests without studying one whit. My goal is to clear up a little time on her schedule year-after-next by going straight to R&S 8 next year and then dropping formal grammar in high school. While I can't give you any "been there/done that" help, I did want to chime in and let you know someone else is thinking along the same lines. Mary in GA
Thank you for the different perspectives! I got out my R&S 8, and after perusing it again, I think we'll try it. I think dd will be up to it. And I just dropped money on a new Latin curriculum! We'll drop back to 7 and look for a used copy if we get too bogged down.
