LinRTX
My daughter has been fighting digestive problems for years. She just spent 8 hours doing breath tests for glucose, fructose, and fructans. The test shows no problems. She has not been able to tolerate onion, garlic, or wheat products for years (fructans). But the test showed no problem. She barely made it home before vomiting 4 times and she has a massive headache. I do not understand.

fraidycat
I'm sorry. That is so frustrating. I would let the test center/doctor? know about her physical reactions despite the test results.
LinRTX
That is what I told her. Unfortunately she lives across the country from me. It makes it doubly hard.
ArteHaus
Get a GI-MAP test. It saved my husband’s life, who suffered through a “mysterious“ gastrointestinal issue for two years.
kbutton
Have you heard of mast cell activation syndrome? It can be triggered by a variety of things, often histamine. But some people have triggers from other substances (oxylates, etc.). I bet some people have fructan triggers. https://thedysautonomiaproject.org/mast-cell-activation/

Kassia
I'm so sorry! That's awful that she's suffering with no idea what's causing it or how to fix it. 😞

I think the vomiting and headache is from the test. Usually she is very very painfully bloated from fructans.
Kanin
Have they tested her for SIBO? That's one of the causes of food intolerances.

One of these breath tests was supposed to and they also tested with a very extensive endoscopy.
LinRTX
She is better today. Just a lot of heartburn. Her headache is gone and she is eating slowly. But she did end up vomiting 8 times after getting home.
gardenmom5
The tests are limited by what (and when) they measure. I hope she's able to get the help she needs.
